How long has the term "superfight" been around?

It seems like such a silly term. Has it come about now that we're in an age where top fighters rarely fight each other? Or is it just because of the over-the-top marketing that goes on in general these days, not just in boxing?

Ah ok. I was thinking they invented it to describe Truax vs DeGale II

The UFC used the term in 1995 . They had the Super fight champion and belt , shocked the WBC didn't pick up on it .

This was the first time I had heard the term. I believe it was referring to Royce Gracie vs Ken Shamrock initially.

It was Shamrock vs Severn .

Shamrock vs Royce resulted in a draw they then created the belt . Not a bad concept of its already a set fight organization they should have kept the concept but they created weight classes .

I always liked the Beast. And about time they added the weight classes and changed the rules is when I started to get away from UFC. I liked seeing the size differences

of course you know nothing and are an idiot. misleading the poor TS like that with your lacking knowledge. you'd chug dillian white's "D sample" straight from the source!

                  TS,
the original "super fight" was ali - marciano in an exhibition / acting out a computer simulation. it ran in theaters like a movie would. it was shot in 1969 and it came out in 1970. marciano lost about 50 lbs to shoot the rounds. ali needed a way to make money while his license was suspended for refusing to enter into the draft.
