Premier Boxing Champions and Fox released a superb almost seven-minute video charting the preparations of Manny Pacquiao and Keith Thurman for their recent clash.

But seconds in, there was an immediate red flag as far as Thurman was concerned.

FIVE HOURS before sharing the ring with the Filipino legend, Thurman was seen indulging in Pizza backstage at the MGM Grand.

Fans immediate posed the question of why.

Loading up on stodgy and fatty carbs before the biggest fight of your life does seem a strange one. Pacquiao, on the other hand, ate a readier chicken and rice dish.

Comments on the matter came almost immediately.

“Pizza before the biggest fight of your career WTF?” – said one.

“The last thing I want to do after eating some pizza is fighting,” stated another.

I'm going along with all the posts here who are saying that it's far from a big deal and has no reflection on Thurmans prep. Is it the ideal pre-fight meal? No prob not, would a s&c coach be happy about it? No

But if it makes him happy post weigh in then its prob better than him eating something hes not happy with. A happy fighter in a good place mentally is dangerous.

Ricky Hatton infamously ate a fry up the morning of fights, and he beat a lot of good fighters and had great conditioning.

Pizza is a BAD idea esp pre fight, Eating Chicken (baked or steamed not fried)+rice and (boiled) egg gives you way more energy and is cleaner then pizza.

This thread is about Thurman eating pizza and etc and if it effected his performance.

I made the point that it didn't cuz he cuda easily won meaning it had no impact on the fight...

U riding Manny dck so hard. U saw "cuda easily won" and disregarded the whole point of what i said or this thread. Smh

Yes or no was the fight close? Take away that knockdown and that coulda easily been a draw.

Not sure what you mean. The best thing to eat before a fight is carbs. Eating pizza is a non issue the day of the fight.
