  • Keith Thurman’s pre-Manny Pacquiao fight meal poses serious questions

Thurman seen eating pizza five hours prior to fight with Manny.

Premier Boxing Champions and Fox released a superb almost seven-minute video charting the preparations of Manny Pacquiao and Keith Thurman for their recent clash.

But seconds in, there was an immediate red flag as far as Thurman was concerned.

FIVE HOURS before sharing the ring with the Filipino legend, Thurman was seen indulging in Pizza backstage at the MGM Grand.

Fans immediate posed the question of why.

Loading up on stodgy and fatty carbs before the biggest fight of your life does seem a strange one. Pacquiao, on the other hand, ate a readier chicken and rice dish.

Comments on the matter came almost immediately.

“Pizza before the biggest fight of your career WTF?” – said one.

“The last thing I want to do after eating some pizza is fighting,” stated another.

Maybe he just ate a slice, who knows. Also the fight was at like 9Pm or something he had plenty of time to sleep. Probably couldnt sleep anyway due to pre fight nerves

Man is a top athlete who was in very good shape I think he can eat a pizza without worrying that it'll diminish his ability.

This reminds me of Diego Corrales eating a club sandwich before his fight with Mayweather.

Sometimes being too relaxed is a bad thing lol.

That is more a sign of nerves, perhaps the pizza was too. That's only natural though, I thought he really took over in the second half of that fight. He's still very good. Hell as long as you work off the calories you can eat whatever you like really. Thurman is most certainly fit enough and physically active enough to be able to afford that risk. If you can even call it a risk, damn pizza sounds very good for before a fight. I'm a curry before the fight kind of guy myself but I might give some pepperoni pizza a shot next time.

Main thing is that he didnt puke. Last year a couple contenders fought and one was seen puking after being hit with a hard body shot - it was on live TV. Okay, now I want a Pizza for dinner tomorrow.

You have never heard of the term clean carbs? Eating Pizza is not that, the grease alone is gonna stick around for at least 12 hours....

I think pizza is okay a few hours before the fight. You would not want that to be a major part of your diet while you're in training but a few hours before I don't think nutrition is an issue. At that point you just want some easily digestible calories, at least that's what me and Keith are thinking .
