British boxing is a soccer club

It’s become apparent to me in recent months that British fans like the United Kingdom more than they like boxing or any sport for that matter.

The sport is just a reason for them to express their patriotism.

Fans in the United States pick and choose their favorite fighters. A lot of them hate certain fighters from the US and bash them constantly on this board.

Fans from the UK love every fighter from the UK. They’re all on the same team and that team is team Britain. They’re out to prove to the world that British boxing is amazing. And no one who’s British can do anything wrong.

Talking to them reminds me of talking to a team sports fan when you don’t think their favorite team is very good. There’s a whole lot tribalism, us vs. them nonsense and accusations of bias when the bias clearly rests in their favoritism towards their team.

      What nonsense.

Plenty of British fans dislike other British fighters. I.e you were generally a Khan fan or a Brook fan and didn’t support the opposing fighter. Fury fans are usually not AJ fans and vice versa.

Mexicans are equally or more patriotic about their fighters than British fans i’d say.

U-S-A, U-S-A, Get in the hole. The other day in one of the Whyte busted threads a certain member on here actually typed U-S-A U-S-A U-S-A as his thoughts on the particular issue. You Americans have the nerve to question other nations getting a bit carried away with patriotism. LOL, give it a rest.

Why is it a problem if British people like British fighters? If anything it sounds quite normal. How do Americans choose? Is it the one with the slimmest ankles or nice full kissable lips?

            Silly thread.

Of course, a popular fighter (like Joshua) will bring in "casual" fans, so you might not be experiencing the real views of proper boxing fans.

But it's a daft generalisation, and I've seen PLENTY of Fat Yankistanians be biased.

PS, It's not soccer, it's football.

Only in Britain could a fighter like David Price actually be a thing

He's entertaining to watch and seems a nice guy. What's wrong with that?

Brit fans seem to be similar to Aussies who will support mediocrity as long as it's theirs. And how is this oaf entertaining???

It's nothing to do with "theirs".

People on this forum are too keen on "winners" and "undefeated records". Bear in mind that Arturo Gatti was never a (skills-wise) elite level boxer.

Two fights ago David Price was fighting a domestic level fighter and started gassing out as usual, looking like he'd get KTFO again. He got manhandled to the ground and won by DQ victory after a Pakistani tried to bite his left nipple.

Now, in what world is that NOT entertaining?
