Understanding that the sport of boxing is a serious sport where fighters can actually die (as in the recent tragic death of Dadashev), Do you think it is right to call fighters "Bums, Tomato Cans"etc.?
Is it right to call boxers "Bums","Tomato Cans", "Uber Drivers" etc?

I mean it sounds disrespectful but how are we supposed to describe low-level opposition according to you?Comment

Sure, why not? Calling someone a bum, tomato can, or uber driver is the same as calling thing a low level and D level fighter. Them having the possibility of being injured in the ring has no bearing on that. That's bad reasoning because one doesn't relate to the other. However, you may have a point if you were talking about calling fighters cowards, because that directly relates to the fact that they put their lives on the line when they step in the ring. That's a matter of heart. You can be a low level fighter and have heartComment

I think it's disrespectful and I never do it. I also never make up insulting names for boxers I don't like. I call them by their right name. I would just say a boxer is lousy or he can't fight much but not call him a bum or tomato can. But everyone can insult the boxers if they want to. There is nothing you can do about and it is just the way many on this forum talk. Even world champions get called bums all the time. I am used to it by now.Comment

No, I hate the term bum. Unless a fighter is a total piece of shyt, there is no call for calling anboxer a bum. Especially not from the comfort of your couch or dimly lit basement.Comment

I totally agree. I respect all fighters and would call one lame or something of that nature if they are low level. Yo are right, I am used to it also but just wanted to hear the opinions from you all. Peace big fam!I think it's disrespectful and I never do it. I think it’s ok as a figure of speech in the context of boxing while making a point. It shouldn’t be taken too literally.
I think most of us have respect for them and respect what they do for a living.Comment
