Dadashev won 3 maybe four rounds top but around the 6th is when it really got one-sided in favor of Matias. Dude was landing thudding, crippling body blows on dadashev, who was on the backfoot. When dadashev decided to stand his ground and fight Matias he was getting rocked hard in the head. Matias just keep coming the whole fight like a mini Jarret Hurd manComment

Sad day for boxing just like when we lost the legendary Pernell Whitaker to a car hit!
Mcgirt saved his life from being absolutely doomed, some trainers would’ve sent him back out there or refs like Jack Reiss would’ve let it continued no matter what!
Prayers to him and his fam!
Boxing is a beautifully brutal sports that isn’t meant for us mere mortals compared to these courageous unbounded warriors!
Boxing and boxers in general deserve way more respect!Comment

Always very sad to hear this sort of news, I guess it's just part of the risk of boxing. Hope you get well soon bro. God bless.Comment

I have nothing to add that hasn't been well-articated here many times over, other than that this epitomizes the darker and sadder aspect of this great sport. Along with the obvious, this also casts an unfortunate shadow over an otherwise impressive performance from Matias (and from Dadashev in the first half before succumbing to Matias' onslaught). Wishing for the best possible prognosis.Comment

My prayers are up for Max
Max showed a great deal of courage in the fight, so much so that Buddy McGirt had to protect him from further damage. I feel so bad for his poor wife back in Russia watching those horrible images of him struggling after the bout. May God protect and heal him.Comment

No prob & yeah Matias will be a problem. I think he threw about 140 punches in round 11 alone! His workrate is crazy.Comment

Sadly there is no way to reasonably prevent these types of injuries. If they stop fights too soon then the media, fans, fighters, etc. will be in an uproar. When is the punishment enough? The ony way would be to radically change the sport and even that may not work. Everyone takes punishment differently. I felt that Dadashev was competitive enough to allow the full 11 rounds. Mcgirt who I had the privelege to speak with on hall of fame weekend is a good dude and great trainer. He made an excellent call last night. Unfortunately the only way this injury could have been prevented is if Dadashev never entered the ring last night. He like all fighters are true warriors. I wish him well and offer thoughts and best wishes to his loved ones.Comment

I'm guilty of calling boxers "bums" myself. But that is banter among fans. Fans have used terms like that to describe athletes in every sport. I do have respect for all who enter the ring and they are definitely warriors. The posters that I have an issue with are like the guy who criticized Mcgirt for waiting too long to stop the fight. When could he have stopped it? The guy was losing but he was undefeated and world class. Mcgirt did his job and a compassionate one at that!Comment
