Golden Boy CEO Eric Gomez responsible for Canelo bypassing September

There is an interview with Kathy Duva stating just last week that her impression was Golden Boy execs didn't want to make Canelo vs Kovalev. Probably because they wanted to cave to DAZN and the financial rewards with a GGG fight. She got the feeling Eric Gomez didn't have much urgency and was kind of passive about making the event happen. Even stating they were taking their sweet time and stating "we'll get back to you, or we'll talk to Canelo."

By not listening to your superstars request (getting him what he wants, the Kova fight) because you wanted your boy to fight GGG instead because you felt that would be more financially lucrative, you now ***ed yourselves and your superstar with inactivity during the Mexican holiday. Now you ran out of time and you can't even do a GGG fight anymore.

This was his negotiation, this was his error for not going hard from the beginning once Canelo gave you orders to make the fight HE wanted.

They didn't **** him with inactivity. He refused to fight Golovkin for some reason. The fight wasn't made becaus GB could not give Kovalev what he wanted. Canelo had the option to fight G but he passed on it. His management aren't miracle workers. There's an old saying. You can't make a silk purse out of a pigs ear. When your client is pig headed don't look for miracles.

What if they're waiting for Kovalev vs Yarde to be over with to face Kovalev?

Because Gomez knows that Kovalev, Smith, Andrade, Charlo, etc are all dangerous fights for Canelo but only bring a fraction of the business a third GGG fight does?

I think they want Kovalev but don't want to have to pay Yarde to get him. It's a gamble, they are betting heavily against Yarde.

I didn't really care one way or another before but now I'm rooting for Yarde, at least a little bit. If Canelo does get the Kovalev fight there will be special weight stipulations in the contract. For a title fight, I personally find that unacceptable.

              Really??

Light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev may move on and fight in August as talks with middleweight titlist Canelo Alvarez about a Sept. 14 bout stall.

Duva said Golden Boy president Eric Gomez, who she has been negotiating with, only briefly asked about a catchweight for the bout but when she said no, Gomez did not press the issue. Duva said Gomez also asked about Kovalev's willingness to do a weight check on the morning of the fight, which she said would not be an issue.
Canelo wouldn't even fight Jacobs or Rocky Fielding without leveraging special princess clauses into the contract.

Who gives a flying *** about same day weigh in? I saw this quote already. As long as their is no catcweight I think that's fair considering it wasn't long ago Canelo was fighting at 154lbs. Or 155 lol

Christ people just don't want to give Canelo credit. They'll be fighting at 175 ***ing pounds. Insane for Canelo to do this.

According to many hard core Canelo fans like you Cashnelo, Bossnelo, Kingnelo, Godnelo is the boss of everything and the boss of both DAZN and GGG. He can fight whoever he wants whenever he wants and nobody can tell him what to do. So if Canelo decides to skip his traditional September date rather than fight GGG, Bivol, Andrade, Dervy, or Jermall after all of them said they want to fight him in September you come running to the rescue saying it's all Eric Gomez's fault. BS. Canelo could have fought any of those guys. Just did not want to fight them and never even said their names or made any offers to them. Canelo is giving up his WBA middleweight title when he could defend it. It's his choice.

I don't think you understand very much about how fighters dehydrate and then rehydrate before a fight. Or if you do you are choosing to pretend it doesn't matter because it suits you to do so.
If Kovalev is having any trouble at all making weight, a same day weigh in, depending on the weight demand, could ruin him and be even worse for him than a catchweight.

Ask yourself, if it didn't matter, why would Gomez be insisting on it??
