Has a network/app ever crossed a star like DAZN crossed Canelo?

When you sign a network exclusive deal the network obviously has some say in who you fight because they want the most lucrative fights to maximize their investment.

I think Dazn has every right to force Canelo to fight top guys the same way SHO had the right to make floyd fight who they wanted.

My guess is Canelo will be “told” to fight guys in 4-5fights of the deal and get his choice the other 6-7 fights.

True but you gotta remember any fight with Ward is most def taking a few years off a fighters' career. :-)

You gave up your Freedom for $$$ Canelo and GBP can't complain at all for DAZN wanting certain fights on their platform considering how much they're paying him!

NOBODY forced him to sign with DAZN, he could've easily did what Wilder did and bet on himself. Canelo has the following in which he could've bet on himself and would've probably made just as much money as DAZN is paying him if not MORE!

So ZERO sympathy for Canelo and GBP right now...this is WTF they signed up for! WTF did they think? DAZN would let him just fight easy fights for all that money? HELL NO! They're to match Canelo TOUGH and after this they're going to want another tough fight next May and another Tough fight Next September after that it won't get any easier and it shouldn't when you paying him that type of money

The Mayweather & Canelo deals are Apples and Oranges

Mayweather Generated 3 mil PPV his first year on that contract probably in the neighborhood of 250 mil Gross in the States all while making a statement that they were trying to be the new #1 in the sport. From the get go Showtime was making $ ( I don’t know how much )

Canelo signed to a new unheard sports app. Dazn banked on Canelo to get subscribers but knew they’d be losing $ with his contract . the Biggest fight to get subscribers for Dazn is Canelo / Golovkin 3. Canelos always felt entitled and does what he wants and doesn’t take orders but in this case he has to view this as a partnership. He was signed on to help Dazn succeed and to do that he needs to swallow his pride fight Golovkin and give the the company that signs his cheque the best chance to get as many subscribers as they can and that’s a Trilogy fight

DAZN basically said GGG or move up two weight classes.

Could you imagine Showtime telling Mayweather that he had to fight Pacquiao or GGG back in 2015?

If there are any examples, please share because I can’t think of any.
HBO literally forced Bob Arum to go into his own pocket to not only front a Pacquiao's PPV, but also forced Arum to go into his pocket for Crawford-Postol.

            What are you talking about?

We are literally inside of 12 weeks to Mexican Independence Day weekend, with nothing else that DAZN has put on gaining traction, and you still think DAZN has leverage here? lol.

hopefully Canelo will simply select his opponent, as usual

DAZN can then decide whether to " approve " the opponent..... or release Canelo from his contract

              either is fine

Canelo is already phenomenally wealthy, and showtime/etc would happily pick him up

As the world turns with technology, 30mil a fight as the years progress and streaming gets better, in actuality Canelo’s deal is big but not really surprising. DAZN is like Phil Jackson when he had MJ. The Chicago bulls’s triangle passing was unprecedented at the time. Tricks up their sleeves.

People are really acting ret@rted as if GGG is what would make Canelo’s legacy and multi deal. Like PBC shills saying “DAZN has a say” like soap opera episode reviews..

DAZN is making bank without GGG. To say DAZN needs GGG for Canelo is oxymoronic since GGG is already on DAZN. Too much phaggotry theory going on mayne!

                exactly

DAZN are nothing without Canelo..... he should walk

he should select his opponent..... and then tell DAZN to approve him, or walk

Canelo needs DAZN unless other networks will match that salary, and its not like GGG is a boogieman now. Canelo is PRIME! PBC shills dont realize that if the whole gripe is that Canelo doesnt like taking ''orders'' from DAZN, why would another network make the same mistake and offer more or match it? What many fans haven't grasped is that DAZN could NON-DISCLOSURE give Canelo Alvarez even MORE MONEY. Nobody has brought this up.

Sure Canelo can take his fans elsewhere, but is Showtime or ESPN+ going to match DAZN's offering? If they do, what does that say to Canelo haters? They're just going to be bitter that the networks they hate, like ESPN+ are unreasonable because they can't stand that some athletes worldwide are worth that premium. If Canelo goes to Showtime, are they going to guarantee Canelo his fight average pay like on DAZN? The whole point of why 30mil is great is because a fighter like Canelo has earned it to not even WORRY about PPV sales!!

The worst case scenario is Canelo fights GGG again. I got the Mexican to KO him or get a UD. GGG either has the choice to go balls out or dodge serious damage so that he can perform his remaining contract thereafter with most likely difficult opposition.

i mean other than pac and canelo, the other 4 fights did less than 1m ppv. which are poor numbers for floyd.
Showtime/CBS and Floyd were a uniquely perfect combination though, because they're interests were pretty much aligned; CBS/Showtime bet on Floyd's starpower, Floyd walked into the deal with the end of his run financially secured, and both parties shared in the upside on the biggest events possible.

Showtime/CBS had 6 fights to basically cover 6 million PPV buys, and they likely ended up with at least 8 million PPV buys (half the Pacquiao fight was with Showtime, but you'd also have to adjust down from $100 to an equivalent at $75). Everybody won.

It's tricky to see how this Canelo-DAZN deal is a win win for everyone, tbh.

Canelo gets paid; at $365m over 11 fights for the US rights, with Canelo fighting 2-3 times per, with Canelo fighting since he was 16 (and an apparently chronic knee thing), this may be the end of his run.

DAZN finally gets a star, but the seeming rush now would have you see that they might not really be set to simply let the deal play out.

Canelo isn't going to make a fight that doesn't make sense to him
