The search for Gennady Golovkin’s replacement opponent on May 5th marches on as the Nevada State Athletic Commission refused to rubber stamp Jaime Munguia as a late substitution. You can’t say that Team Golovkin didn’t give it the good ol’ college try, though.

While Munguia (28-0, 24 KOs) maintains an undefeated record, the 21-year-old prospect hasn’t fought anyone even close to the level of Golovkin and hasn’t even been in a scheduled 12-rounder to this point. He also campaigns in the division below Golovkin so, yeah, it was pretty clear that he was being lined up to be a crash test dummy in a gross mismatch that was probably more dangerous than the sport inherently is.
The fight wasn't offered to Munguia yet as the GGG camp wanted O'sullivan who balked on the fight last minute and he would have just been a late replacement when Canelo got kicked out of the rematch for cheating. It's not like there were many options out there. This is all pretty common knowledge in boxing at the time.

The WBC has ordered Charlo vs GGG. The parties have until September 14th to make a deal or a purse bid will be ordered.

Surely nobody would be in favor of GGG/Munguia over GGG/Charlo would they?
Didn't they try this before? GGG doesn't take the fight and then what? The order makes no sense.

he could have fought many other fighters on any date, but sacrificed him self to save 5 de mayo LMAO...
By your own admission Golovkin can not carry a ppv with just any opponent. If Munguia had been approved the ppv would have been a minor success. No other date with a different opponent would have worked.

Maybe they were in the scramble to find a late sub and brought a list up to the commission. Either way, Jaime was still a better fight than the one that happened against Martirosyan so I'm not sure why your panties are in a bunch.

no minor success at all, fight wouldnt even be a ppv at all back on the days... munguia was totally unknown...
being mexican alone doesnt sell ppvs...

I totally disagree. He's very proven now, ranked very well and has won several title fights incl. two very good wins over Ali and Liam Smith.

                      WBC- Charlo
                      WBO - Andrade
                      IBF - Devryenchenko

                      What about Murata/Brant/GGG circle.

My theory is industry knows GGG and Loeffler are taking easy way outs, and a tad bit of empathy emerged for Abel Sanchez.
I would def agree at this point...like you said..its been obvious they are looking for easy ways out

been that way since they fought dom wade and kell brook to preserve canelo instead of ward which still took them almost 2 years after lemiuex to get...

people have been watching since before that even....getting approved on hbo to fight Curtis stevens who had lost to primera and jesse Brinkley....they watched him refuse to negotiate weights with cotto and canelo....

its been painfully obvious that golovkin isn't interested in anything really tough or great....it would be about time someone with some power basically told them to go fugg off and fight someone

golovkin was given a free pass by the media...like ward said a few years back "switch our records and resumes....if I ran from a fight with him the media would have killed me".......hbo needed a star...and golovkin played the aw shucks foreigner with a smile who knocked guys out ala pac(pac actually fought real dudes though)....and the media ate it up....

way back in the day over at ESB...I actually used to proclaim that part of the reason he was having such a hard time getting canelo was because people in the industry were getting sick of golovkins games and him earning all this "fame and glory" for beating subpar comp and even dragging up a WW after making fun of nelo for the khan fight

it would certainly about time someone demanded he do something tough
