How do you convince someone to go from making 4 mil to 2 mil? You have to pay them the 2 mil difference, plus maybe another 500k to give up the title shot.
So if Canelo is offering Kovalev 6 mil, 2.5 mil goes to Yarde. That leaves 3.5 mil for Kovalev to fight Canelo. Whereas if Kovalev just fights Yarde, there's no step aside fee to pay, and Kovaelv gets to keep his whole purse.
So is Kovalev getting 6 mil to fight Yarde? Who knows, but is he getting over 3.5 mil? Yes. Russian billionaires are bankrolling that fight. He is getting over 3.5 mil. If Yarde is for that fight, then so is Kovalev.
So actually, Canelo's offer to Kovalev, after Kovalev pays the step aside fee to Yarde, is less than Kovalev would make vs Yarde. Duva was telling the truth, it's a joke of an offer.

It’ll only be made if kovalev submits to a catchweight. Which begs the question. Why make the fight? It’s not like anyone actually asked for it.
If you gotta drain a fighter to beat him, what’s the purpose to fight him?

Hopefully GGG steps up and fights Bivol instead in the meantime. Haha yeah right... I say at that as a GGG fan, but it's clear he's not in the business of taking risks anymore. Probably rightfully so. He would get dominated. He's too old. Bivol vs prime GGG would have been epic though.
Based on John Skippers expectations, GGG will have to face a credible opponent. If Canelo faces Kovalev, I think GGG will face Andrade.

I think the... " Kovalev is the front-runner "... talk, is premature
if this is true.....
Since making its offer to Kovalev (33-3-1, 28 KOs), Golden Boy Promotions also has gauged interest from representatives for WBO junior middleweight champ Jaime Munguia (33-0, 26 KOs) and WBO middleweight champ Demetrius Andrade (28-0, 17 KOs). Golden Boy has a little more time to negotiate with Munguia and Andrade because, unlike Kovalev, neither fighter has another bout tentatively scheduled.
hopefully Andrade is willing to make that fight quickly
I still believe that Andrade is the front-runner
Canelo Alvarez focused on becoming undisputed middleweight champion
On fighting Demetrius Andrade for the undisputed title:
“That’s the goal, whoever has the title. It doesn’t matter. Our goal is to unify all the belts, become the undisputed middleweight champion of the world. We’re gonna sit with our team and we’ll come back with a decision.”
