Just watched the fight from last night.
Don't get me wrong, there are things to like about Andrade. He has ridiculous reach and is very unorthodox, has decent speed. But I felt like he is stuck between styles. Some points he's got a really high peek-a-boo style guard, but then drops his hands and really wings his punches, a bit like Deontay Wilder. The movement from guard to offense is telegraphed and easy for his opponent to anticipate. He should stop doing this entirely. Could end up getting himself brutally KOed doing that.
Then further into the fight he lowered his guard and was moving more, but kept holding his feet and smothering his own work when he would let his hands go. Like his arms are just too long to fight short. And the left hand last night was horrible. Absolutely horrible. Big, wide, looping slow punch telegraphed every damn time. Someone like Billy Joe Saunders could landed a 10-punch combo in the time it takes that left hand to travel. Seems like he doesn't have much power either.
Was this the guy who was talking about sparring after smoking weed? Like weed helps him train better? Who is his trainer? He needs a much higher workrate and should work on his angles and movement. Those things should be the bread and butter of his fighting style. Wouldn't hurt to work on throwing a shorter, straight left hand either.
I saw an incomplete fighter last night. And it's crazy people are talking about him challenging the likes of Saul Alvarez. That would be a total mismatch at this point. He would probably struggle terribly against someone who could apply effective pressure for 12 rounds, get close and make him work every single round. And there are many fighters like that who aren't even top 5-10 in the World.
