Could Tyson have fought at 240 pounds ?

I read recently that Mike Tyson weighs 240 pounds nowadays.

He is carrying the weight well. He looks slim, fit and in-shape and has a flat stomach. Doesn’t seem much more than 15-18% body fat. He actually looks fitter than Tyson Fury does ! In videos of him sparring he doesn’t seem slowed down much.

Do you think he could have fought at 240 pounds in his fighting days ?

This is Tyson at his heaviest fighting weight 233 lbs vs McBride

Could he have fought at 240 lbs? Yes, would it have done him any good? no.

If his goal is to impress women at the beach, 240 is good, but for the purpose of boxing, he was at his best in the Cus D'Amato days when he was around 215 - 220 lbs. His style requires a lot of speed, movement, and timing to be effective. In the Lennox Lewis fight he was 235 lbs. and he looked tired and sluggish.

You have gotten some fantastic responses here. I know of very few times when a fighter came in too light. There have been times when a fighter overtrains, or is sick... Lighter is usually better

Fighting any version of M.Tyson over the 220 mark and a M.Tyson closer to 215 is a entire different fight.

M.Tyson at a slight under 5'10 would not be built for weighing 240 bc that's not what he trained to be ,he trained to be a explosive counter puncher able to avoid getting hit.

Cus Damato said he was at his best at 215 ,if Cus had been around and made it through the majority of his career we would have seen a entire different M.Tysons legacy where he would have remained undefeated way beyond the 1989 mark, only trolls and fools will continue to argue that. lol

He naturally walks around at 240 nowadays it’s not like he’s artificially bulked himself up to 240, he is obviously built for 240.

Won’t the extra size help and strength help in clinches and punch resistance and stop him from getting manhandled like he was by Lewis ?

If you look at pictures of him nowadays he is definitely in better shape than he was in the mid-2000s. Nowadays he looks like he has 10 pounds less fat and 15 pounds more muscle than in these pictures. And besides, I’m talking about a young 240 pound Tyson and Tyson was already quite old in those fights.

Also, the extra fat could help with stamina since he was AJ-ripped at 220.

Won’t the size and strength help against big superheavies ? Giving up 30 pounds to a Klitschko or a Fury can’t be helpful.
