Keep plugging along, Floyd. They said the same thing about Hopkins.

Everybody is acting like Mayweather is ducking all sorts of fighters and responsible for big fights not happening. I hope Floyd doesn't let this garbage coming from internet fans get to him because just like Hopkins, in a few years they'll forget all about it and all will be on Mayweather's bandwagon. In 2003, you couldn't find a single Hopkins fan on any message board anywhere, and that is a fact. ESPN bashed him, HBO bashed him, everybody criticized Hopkins for not making good fights. They criticized him for not making the Roy rematch a reality and they criticized him for not fighting Toney after Toney crushed Jirov. Now it's 2006, and everybody is a Hopkins fan. Nobody remembers that just three years ago, the entire world hated this man. Larry Merchant bashed Hopkins face to face like none other. Even Max Kellerman had enough of Hopkins' **** by the summer of 2003, and no one cared about Bernard. Now on this board, every other person has a Hopkins avatar and claims they were down since day one and all sorts of bull****. Sure, he had fans after he destroyed Trinidad, but that was more because a lot of people wanted to see Trinidad go down and be the one to call it. After Hopkins fought Trinidad, he fought nobodies for three more years before reaching De La Hoya, and everybody wanted to see Hopkins lose that one. And it wasn't just because De La Hoya is such a boxing darling. It was because PEOPLE HATED HOPKINS. Now you'd be hard pressed to find one boxing expert or fan who doesn't kiss Hopkins' ass all day long. Hopkins played it right, and Mayweather will too.

Right now, so many people hate Mayweather, but to Floyd I say this: just keep plugging along and doing your thing, and nobody will remember how they felt about you in 2006. Except of course people like me.

I think people hate Mayweather so much because he is that good and they look for excuses to say he's ducking him or he's ducking this guy. People want to see this guy lose and lose bad. He's the guy you love to hate. ****y and arrogant with the words to back up his actions. Right now he's calling the shots but I guarantee you someone in the welterweight division will give him his first loss.

Yeah sure PBF can keep his head up like Bhops but I can assure you PBF won't be another Bhops.

Bhops may not have been a Champ in so many Divisions like PBF but Pbf will not and cannot assert his dominace in a division like Bhops did. Especially now that there are so many people saying that he is not fighting all the deserving opponents.

No dude be real. I can only speak for myself and not for the rest.

I'm pushing for PBF to fight all the deserving opponents who presents themselves especially a co-title holder in Margarito not because I hate him or wanted to see him lose badly.

If PBF is really that good as he IS regarded and as he presents himself to be, then nobody can expect him to lose and lose badly.

That my friend needs validation. And that can only be validated inside the ring.

B-Hops and Mayweather have nothing in common as far as dominating division go.

This is a pretty depressing post, because it's right on. But the fact that it's right is sad.

It's true that all sports fans like numbers, and 20 defenses sounds good, just like 5 titles in 5 weight classes. Nobody remembers if some defenses were against funny little Frenchmen who ran around in circles and welterweights out of their weightclass, and nobody will remember if titles were paper and irrelevant or not. Numbers and streaks sell your legacy to the general weekend fans, and fans that know better are usually in the extreme minority.

It'd be nice if there were enough dedicated and knowledgable boxing fans and writers for this not to be the case, and that fighters would have to fight and beat the best to be considered all-time great fighters, but sadly that's not the case. And boxing fans lose key and potentially historic matchups because of it, and we shoot ourselves in the foot because we are the ones who had to suffer through Hopkins-Hakkar instead of enjoying Hopkins-Jones II, Hopkins-Calzaghe, etc.
