If GGG doesn’t get Canelo, who should he fight?

I know everyone is going to say Charlo or Andrade, or maybe Brant or Sergiy D. or Jacobs 2, but I’m going to look at this as a promoter and someone trying to protect GGG’s potential shot at Canelo.

I think he should fight Jaime Munguia and I would say fight him in Mexico.

Munguia is young and flawed and in a smaller weight class. But he’s got a pretty record and a title.

The most popular narrative surrounding him is that he was the GGG opponent that the NSAC didn’t approve but then proved himself by winning a title at 154. Lets face it, only the guys who really pay attention know he’s struggled recently and that Sadam Ali flamed out.

I think it’s a sure thing victory for GGG and I think only the people who really follow boxing would criticize Munguia as an opponent. I think it could reignite the Canelo rivalry a bit with a national revenge narrative and also the Golden Boy Promotions revenge narrative.

And if I was Munguia, I would take that fight. You have nothing to lose, no one expects him to win. GGG is old and probably as ripe for the picking as he’ll get. That chance likely isn’t coming again. And if he does win, he’ll fight Canelo next and be a fight away from being the biggest thing in boxing.

It all totally makes sense to me.

Tell me who you would fight next if you were GGG.

I would want Andrade...or Smith at 168...if he goes to 168 he should probably stay there though.

Wouldn't mind Charlo either...Brant or the others mentioned don't interest me as much.

3rd fight will happen regardless of what he does imo...and the money will be good...if he gets beaten up or something and loses cleanly before Canelo...people will still tune in to see if Canelo can stop him or destroy him

He should fight the winner of the Andrade fight if he is available. Then he is a champion again even if Canelo never risks fighting him again. He could also beat Saunders for the WBO 168 pound title. He would get trashed for fighting Mungia and it won't get him a Canelo fight or a world title. He could fight Smith at 168. If he wins then he becomes the man at 168 and Canelo would have to beat him to become the man at 168. I think the Smith fight would be the best if he can beat him.

If he doesn't fight Canelo... Smith, Charlo, Andrade, Saunders, Jacobs 2, or Derevyanchenko. Any of those guys, 160/168... I'm gonna lose a ton of respect if he doesn't fight any of the guys I mentioned, say he doesn't get Canelo.

Agree with Andrade or Charlo...but he won't be pressured to fight either by fans or cowardly boxing media, instead people will just blame Canelo for the reason why he is fighting Kamil Szeremeta or Steven Butler or somebody like that next if he doesn't get the Canelo fight

I think you are a waste of life suggesting such an easy fight for ggg! Remember the Cotto days when you people called him a Diva and pretended Cotto was ruining the sport by not fighting ggg well now you fake boxing fans are doing it way more to the extreme. Your protecting a payday for ggg is sickening and just wrong. Worse fan base by far no honor what so ever
