Part of me likes that the archaic form of boxing is making a resurgence. Hopefully a new Jack Johnson will emerge.
Bareknuckle fighting is a different game

Anyone who thought Paulie won that fight doesn't understand scoring.
I've noticed something. People score boxing like it's a fight ("all that counts is punches!") and fighting like it's boxing ("Paulie's jab kept Lobov off") - NO!
Here you have BKFC where all that really DOES matter is clean, effective punching, aggression and ring generalship. Defense matters, but only if you cause damage in return. It's what everyone said they wanted. They give it to you and you still don't acknowledge it when your boy Paulie goes in there, doesn't throw punches for two rounds and gets stumbled the third round. There's NO way he won that fight and the fact that all three judges got it perfectly right confirms that.
Now, if it were a boxing match, then yes, I can see a Paulie win, because there, defense matters a lot more and less so that you're overly aggressive. But it wasn't a boxing match. Paulie tried to make it one, the judges let him know that wasn't going to work.
Some of you need to learn how to score a fight vs how to score a boxing match.Last edited by Combat Talk Radio; 06-23-2019, 09:19 AM.Comment

Thought Paulie won, fight wasn't crap but it wasn't anything above average tbh, very disappointing. Glad I didn't spend the $40 BigStomps
Something Artem said at the post fight presser is what I agreed with fully...what the fucc is with the ref separating the clinch straight away? The guy should never ref again because he's either incompetent or corrupt. I get it, BKFC wants ACTION and the rounds are only 2 minutes, but that ain't Artem's fault. Make the rounds 3 minutes then and allow the clinch to go on.
Seriously, most referees need a slap to the fuccing head - watch Ward vs Kovalev 1, those guys were allowed to clinch for 30 seconds at a time - it was an absolute joke but in a sport where the clinch is allowed the ref separates them after barely even a second.
Had Paulie winning in all honesty but if the ref wasn't such a ****sucker Artem would have stopped Paulie imo or at least rearranged his faceComment

The confusing part is that judges in MMA especially can't make up their minds....is the guy who outstrikes his opponent the winner or the guy who lands a third of the punches but the punches are more telling? Every week, state by state, the criteria changes for some reason...Anyone who thought Paulie won that fight doesn't understand scoring.

I hope they make a point of damage being the main criteria, I can dig that as it will FORCE people to fight. Just don't have the rules ambiguous so you can bend the rules any which way depending on who the promotion wants to win.Comment

Well it’s certainly not a sport for a pure boxer with no power.
I said yesterday that out of all boxers, Malignaggi would be the one you would pick last to go into a bareknuckle fight.
The thing is, you can’t even judge and score the fight on boxing standards. The onus is on aggression, which is why Paulie lost. He barely threw punches. People saying Paulie won are judging it as if it was a boxing match, which it wasn’t.
That said, i think a real boxer-puncher would whoop these other guys in these events, but it’s just not for potshotters that fight on the back foot.Comment

MMA is straight forward. It's impact. What impact did what you do, have? The confusing part is that judges in MMA especially can't make up their minds....is the guy who outstrikes his opponent the winner or the guy who lands a third of the punches but the punches are more telling? Like when Amanda Nunes got straight up dropped on her head. That's impact. Nullifies any striking she may or may not have done, clearly. Was legal because it was done to counter a submission, which was brilliant strategy that very few fighters have the ring IQ to pull out.
I've watched BKFC fight cards. By and large, it's simple. If you saw these two guys swinging at each other on the street, by the end of the fight, who do you think got the better of who, as a street fight?
That's why I say there's no way Paulie won that, because if were a street fight, Paulie be called a B for Rounds 3-5 and everyone knows it.Comment

It’s probably not even worth analysing in depth
It was a fight between a shot to bits retired boxer and some MMA journeyman in a low budget bareknuckle scrap.Comment

You’re aware in a street fight you can palm strike with Fast lighting combosYeah, I think that proved that boxing is not as efficient in a street fight as some people thought. A boxer would kill any average joe in a street fight but he cannot throw hands like he is in a boxing match. The truth is that hands are like delicate little flowers. Landing punches on the skull can break them, on the teeth or even landing it on the face without wraps can injure you.
This bare knuckle fighting also doesn't work though, a muay thai guy would kill them if they clinch and try to do that "dirty boxing". It's also more boring than boxing in my opinion. Less punches thrown, shorter fights, etc...Comment

They aren’t fully bare knuckles are they? I didn’t watch it. I would think they would have hand wraps on. Straight bare knuckle seems too barbaric to me.
Anyways, in this type of combat, I think the focus on your punches should be anywhere BUT the head. I’m talking about arms, chest, shoulders, forearms, anywhere on the body that’s fleshy and meaty. Stay far away from bone on bone contact.
If they want this to be viewed at like a street fight, I think it should be scored accordingly like a street fight. What I mean by that, is they should just get rid of scoring round by round entirely. In a street fight, how do you judge who won? On the fight or match as a whole I think. Just take the fight in it’s entirety and ask yourself, who won the entire thing? Is that a bad idea? I don’t really know myself. I’d be interested to see more of this.Comment
