Yea, I agree. I've seen that rule applied in lighter divisions, but the weight differences in HW are way above the lighter divisions. There can be 40, 50 lb. weight differences or more at HW. Lighter divisions are generally 8 - 10 lbs. between divisions.

At HW any fighter should have to have at least 3 fights to get a mandatory. (Yea I know, I don't get to make the rules) I think the WBO is cooperating with hearn on this one.

Hearn would have to have A LOT of trust in Usyk at heavyweight for this to be a favour. I’m sure Eddie would prefer to have Whyte as the WBO mandatory (he’s in the #1 spot with the WBO)

Gassiev and Briedis would easily make top 10 in LHW.

We'll see how Gassiev does when he moves up, but Briedis is 4-0 at HW with a huge KO over WBA champ Manuel Charr.

and we'll scrub Bellew beating Haye, because he wouldn't have if Haye wasn't shot...but wasn't Bellew champ at 175?

Bellew was KO'd by Adonis Stevenson. That's acceptable as a LHW, but not a great resume for a HW boxer.

It’s a lot more evident in his fight with Parker. (A fight I thought Ruiz won but would have won clearly if he didn’t tire in the middle rounds) What is also evident is that he has issues with his stamina. Issues like these are all relative to who he fighting however. Against Joshua his feet and stamina seemed fine because Joshua’s issues in those areas are even bigger.

Usyk can do all the things that Joshua could not. He is going to make Ruiz deal with angles and he’s going make Ruiz work non stop. Ruiz’s fat isn’t an issue unless you make move that bulk around. Moving that 260 pounds around burns energy, a lot of energy if he has to try to do it quickly or constantly change direction. Ruiz is fairly efficient shuffling straight ahead behind his jab.

We will see but my opinion is that the two worst possible matchups for Ruiz are the fighters who move well and are in no way looking to engage in a firefight, Fury and Usyk.

Not sure I agree about Ruiz's stamina, but I agree with your conclusion: Fury and Usyk (and any HW fighter with Usyk-type skills) would be the worst style matchups for Ruiz.

Fury has such a long jab, he would be a problem. But if Fury lets Ruiz get in close, he would batter Fury.

The fact that an ABC group can force a champion to face a guy that’s never fought in the division is yet another reason why them, and the belts that represent them are a joke. And that’s not a knock on Usyk. He’s a terrific fighter and I applaud him for daring to be great. That said, he should have to prove his worth as a heavyweight before a champion is forced to fight him.

The only joke of an organization I know starts with W and ends with a C .
