Comments Thread For: Banks: With Longer Camp, GGG Will Look Different Against Canelo

NEW YORK Gennadiy Golovkin implemented some of what Johnathon Banks trained him to on June 8th. Golovkin's new trainer is confident, though, that Golovkin will look better when he encounters Canelo Alvarez a third time because they'll have had much more time to work together for that fight. Banks replaced Abel Sanchez about seven weeks before Golovkin knocked out Steve Rolls in the fourth round at Madison Square Garden.j

I don't feel like GGG has to change, he just needs to stand in the pocket a little more and trust his chin with Canelo. I get that CA is a counter puncher and all but at some point, GGG's going to have to hurt and stop him to get a rightful victory.

A lot of people say Canelo has no power but I think the opposite. Jacobs, ggg, and Chavez were prime examples of boxers unwilling to let their hands go for fear of being countered. I think Cotto took canelos power the best but I think Canelo let off the gas and didn’t go for ko. Everyone has a plan until they get hit.

He's proven to have power but nobody wants to get hit in the face. Canelo has more than proven to be an effective counter puncher vs. GGG also but that doesn't mean he beat him.

Just another trainer trying to hoodwink his way into convincing the public he's a super trainer with a magic wand . The fighter at his age is the finished article and banks has obviously come cheaper than the last guy .may freshen things up a bit and adopt a different tactic and if it comes off he's suddeny a great trainer , it's easy to start at the top ..build something from nothing and make a world champion then I'm convinced otherwise be grateful for being in the right place at the right time for the right price ..

TO be fair, Banks is correct about a longer camp. At GGG's age an 8-10week camp is needed with plenty of recovery days.

GGG is to old to be taught any new tricks but his approach to boxing could be tweaked.

Banks just needs to emphasize body work. It was good to see Golovkin throw as many body shots as he did against Rolls. I don't care that Steve isn't the boxer that Canelo is, G just needs to throw more body shots and with conviction. He threw some really good ones in the rematch but there weren't enough. There was one in the 8th round that literally moved Canelo.

Lol I hope he does stand in the pocket and get hit even more. GGG looked beat the *** up after the fight and went to the ER while Canelo went to the club.

GGG could always knock down or KO Canelo....

Canelo looked worse for wear in both fights as well. And there's no doubt that GGG can hurt Canelo because he did so in both fights. Canelo just played it off well and fair play to him.
