Will Canelo eventually become a bigger superstar than Mayweather?

How are we measuring popularity? I'd bet against him doing so myself.

To me he's never coming close to Floyd level popularity unless he starts broadening his audience by speaking English more + now with this DAZN move I think he's stagnated his growth so he'll need to go back to US PPV & more watched US networks or he'll need DAZN to get a lot more growth during his time with them.

Idk about losing to GGG, but I'm with you on Canelo losing in the next few years for sure & that'll damage his popularity a lil bit. If Canelo moves up to 168 I think a cat like Benavidez could give him hell & if Benavidez keeps getting better/more experienced over these next couple maybe he's f#cking up Canelo's day pretty good.

Plus I don't think Canelo is gonna have the longevity of Floyd & thats gonna give him a smaller window to pass Floyd too.

No, he doesn’t have suitable dance partners.

        Mayweather had DLH, Mosley, Pacquiao.

Even with Floyd’s dance partners, Canelo still won’t sell like Floyd. Canelo would only sell like Floyd, vs Floyd himself.

What Mayweather did vs Canelo, 2.2 million ppv buys, was Mayweather’s 2nd time doing it, and he did it a total of 4x, including one in a farce fight vs an MMA fighter in which many boxing fans said they won’t buy it.

        DLH - 2.4mill
        Canelo - 2.2mill
        Pacquiao - 4.6 mill
        McGregor - 4.3 mill

Canelo can’t do these numbers even vs the same fighters in the same year Floyd did it. And big star fighters, big PPV draws on their own, are nowhere to be seen from 154 to 175. There’s Pacquiao at 147 and Canelo at 160 and that’s about it. Next step up is HW where they have Joshua who is a decent draw.

No. Floyd had fans AND haters that boosted him to that level. Plus Canelo doesn't really have any superstar rivals like De La Hoya or Pacquiao. Not to mention the English speaking factor.

Yeah there's enough Mexican's/Chicano's in the USA that he can get by without speaking English and still get a lot of money, but around 80% of the United States only know English and no other language... So yeah he needs to appeal to the other 80% if the discussion is on him surpassing Mayweather's level of stardom.

All of Mexico and Mexicans already know who he is. He’s not gonna get any more mexican fans. To be bigger than floyd he has to get more Americans to either love him or hate him

                - -First time I saw TUE 50-0, he got beat from pillar to post by a tiny Mexican, Jesus Chavez.

Then Castillo, then Judah where TUE earned an automatic DQ when Unc Rog stormed the ring causing a riot. Then the Maidana fights that saw him stopping the action to go squalling for his dear daddy.

Then the manny fight where he ran from a one armed Filipino dwarf(His words.)

Then novice debut McG who mullered him at will til the suits pulled the plug like they did the Chavez fight.

Poor guy needs a platoon of 350lb meatloafs to protect him in public.

TUE a modern rendition of the Pet Rock fad back in the day. This too shall pass to be flushed from conscious memory.

No. He can't speak the languages to get him over the hump.
Yao Ming learned English in a year.

                      No.

Floyd is a master troll who played with his haters petty feelings. Dude knew how to make himself highly emotionally relevant so people would buy his fights on feeling.

In addition Floyd was the most skilled boxer in decades and one of the GOATs in ability.

I'm an Alvarez fan but he's no troll. While Alvarez is a very good borderline great fighter, he doesn't dominate opponents and make big fights look easy like Floyd did.
