Comments Thread For: Briedis Knocks Glowacki Out in Wild Fight, For WBO Title

I always assumed Robert Byrd was corrupt after the Kovalev-Ward fight, but maybe he really was simply struggling with his vision and hearing in old age this whole time since then? Either way, he should never ref another fight after this. He got a boxer unnecessarily hurt. Glowacki had survived the round, but Byrd let him keep getting hit after the bell, then he jumped to say it was over, but didn't stop Briedis from continuing to punch, and then called it a knockdown. Instead of protecting the fighter, Byrd's presence in that ring confused the fighter, got in his way then got out it just in time for him to eat a punch he didn't see, and made the ring much more dangerous for the fighter to be in than if there had been no referee at all. Byrd must never ref another fight after this. And obviously, his wife should never judge one. Time for the Byrd family to migrate away from boxing to a profession where their lack of ability doesn't cost other people their dreams or their health.Comment

LMAO
This was the card of the year!!
Just like others said....Glowacki himself threw an intentional blatant rabbit punch first and he also was the guy to keep swinging after the bell rang. The only one who should be blamed is Robert Byrd! He didn't do his job, the fighters did. They need to fire Robert Byrd along with his wife and never let them officiate boxing ever againComment

It was delayed, but not embellished. It was a legit delayed reaction. That was a big elbow. I dont know if its why Glowacki got knocked down afterwards, but I think it was a legit reaction. Of course, he probably hoped to get a point deduction lying on the ground for awhile, but I think when he went down initially, it was legit.Comment

I'm actually OK with the way Briedis retaliated.
When you get hit blatantly hit behind the head like, which was a very dirty shot by Glowacki, I think it's fair game to retaliate any way you want to whether it's a Low blow, a rabbit punch, headbutt or even elbow. I see boxers do that all the time.
The big issue in this fight was what happened when the bell went off. Now if Glowacki stopped fighting and Briedis didn't and Briedis dropped him I think that should be a NC. However, if Glowacki was also fighting with Briedis and got dropped after the bell, then it's fair game.
In this case Glowacki didn't stop fighting imo. I think they should let the result stand.Comment

GTFO.
This is a No Contest, Briedis fights cuban in the finals, someone becomes interim trophey owner and then winner/Glowacky shows us a true Winner.
P.S. Also, Byrds must say goodbye to boxing.Last edited by Ajvar; 06-15-2019, 07:35 PM.Comment

Mike Perez, very sadly, is so strong that he seriously injured another up and coming fighter, Magomed Abdusolomov, at heavyweight, then he came down to cruiserweight. The fact that Briedis was strong enough to boss him up close says something about Briedis, and if you watch that fight, Perez fought very dirty. It was just one of those fights, but most Briedis fights aren't like that. He's been in some good action fights. It's not like every one of his fights is like that, like with Andre Ward or something. Just vs Perez, where the styles and Perez's dirty style led to that type of fight.Comment
