Comments Thread For: Maurice Hooker: I Wouldn't Have Fought Ramirez In His Hometown

NEW YORK There was only one place Maurice Hooker wouldn't have gone to fight Jose Ramirez. As much as Hooker wants to prove himself against another 140-pound champion, he wouldn't have agreed to meet Ramirez in Fresno, California. Ramirez, of nearby Avenal, California, has become one of the biggest attractions in American boxing at Fresno State University's Save Mart Center, where he regularly has drawn crowds in excess of 10,000.

This one has war written all over it! Really excited for this unification fight. Looks like 140 may have another undisputed champ soon again.

There will be more people in the arena cheering for Ramirez to win than Hooker. Tribalism.

Had Zepada WIN by 1 round strong or UD agreeably. Totally argee with Hooker with the climate of judge decisions last 12 months.

Would be great if all fights could be judged neutrally...I will say Hooker's comments are odd though considering perhaps the worst decision I have ever seen given was the draw he received vs Perez.

He seems to have redeemed himself since, but I would probably find it easier to root for him now if he had been given the loss in that fight as he deserved. Kind of took away his redemption story in a way.

Looking forward to this one. I feel like both are vulnerable to something the other can do. I feel like Hooker is the more talented but Ramirez does more with the talent he has which makes it an event fight. I have no idea who come out on top.
