Either way we all know fighters move up or down for big money fights. They don't do it for 10% of the money they would get by staying at their divisions.

There was no point in moving up to fight Ward for 2 millions when he was mandatory for Canelo/Cotto winner on his natural division.

He knew he would get 10-15 millions fighting either Cotto or Canelo and could even get rematches which he did.

If he was paid 50 millions he would have done it. Ward fought Kovalev because he was paid 3x his biggest previous purse for these fights.

My reading is different... there's the timestamp at 8:14 where he says 'no, no Andre ward - too much for me right now' but then he uses very similar phraseology 'I can't, I can't, too much' about a different question (at 9:10) - it's indistinct but it sounds something like 'what sort of fight (with Geale) do you see it being?' and it's clear his meaning is he doesn't have an answer - in effect 'it's too much to think about right now'. The repeated use of the phrase suggests to me his original meaning was not that Ward is too dangerous a fight for him, but simply that this isn't something he wants to think about at that time.

When he's asked about Ward (and Chavez Jr) again at 11:15 he gives a much clearer answer that should have dispelled all this BS a long time ago 'my focus right now is my fight (with Geale)... I hope so in the future, yes'

It's always gonna be down to individual interpretation of course, but I had a non native English speaker as a father so I think I got fairly good at interpreting this stuff
