He would need a popular rival.

Spence’s personality will change. We already saw glimpses of that during the Mikey build up. Crawford can try the villain roll to make people watch him. But we will see. Wilder has to beat all the top heavyweights and keep talking ****.

Canelo is a superstar but if he didn’t have the Hispanic fan base I’m not sure how close to mayweather he would get.

You need someone that draws enough attention and someone casuals will pay to see lose.

But you also got Crawford Spence and Thurman coming on the rise.
Mikey G still has some potential
Gervontae Davis is starting to get noticed (for the wrong reasons thoe)
The Charlos were also getting some hype but one loss and the other keeps fighting low caliber.
Broner could have done it but we all know the story there.
        How do you define "Mainstream"?
Was Boxing mainstream in the 1980s/1990s (Mike/Oscar era)?
        Is College Basketball mainstream?
        Is MMA mainstream right now?

Boxing needs more than a "star,"or two, to make it mainstream. Boxing needs ESPN, FOX, DAZN to work for it to stay in the minds of the average sports fan

Who cares about things being mainstream? Game of thrones is mainstream and it's rubbish! Do some people need everyone else to like something for them to like it? I don't care who else is watching boxing. I watch it cos I love it.

No boxer can make boxing main stream. They can make THEMSELVES main stream, but not the whole sport.

For boxing to become main stream again step 1 is boxing needs to make some f#cking sense. 1 world champion. Rankings that don't look like a down syndrome child came up with them. Less sketchy scorecards. Top guys fighting top guys all the time. Etc & so on.

Everything Eff said...plus you gotta have actual journalists reporting on the sport and not these promotional outfit shills that spread nonsensical promotional division.

It will be tough for anyone. It'll take someone who can get through the managerial/promotional red tape to land big fights, fight often and win convincingly.

Or something really controversial, even if it was during a weigh in or something. He just would need to shock the public into disdain and make sportscenter
