A tournament at heavyweight right now would be awesome.

But of course the people who run boxing never think about the good of the sport. They only think about filling their pocketbook.

So you'll never see all the top names enter such a tournament.

I think Povetkin, Chisora, and Pulev are shot. I don't think Parker, Breazeale, Miller, or Whyte are or ever were good. Rivas and Kownacki I still consider prospects. Usyk has to prove it at heavyweight, though obviously he's insanely talented.

I don't think Ruiz is that good, but I was rooting for him and I was happy to see him win.
It's true that other than Wilder and Fury the rest seem a notch below. Joshua looked like a mess and it will be interesting what happens with Ruiz. It looks like an automatic rematch but something tells me Joshua needs a confidence boost first. Ajagba is still unproven but looks like a beast. We have to see about his chin. I would love to see these young guys fight it out. A Ruiz/Kownacki fight would fill up Barclay's Center!

The thing is that Fury and Wilder never really fight anyone. Wilder has gone back to Ortiz and no one even knows the guy Fury is figthing. How long does Whyte have to be at no.1 in the WBC rankings before he gets a chance to fight Wilder???

I'd like to see Parker and Ruiz fight Fury and Wilder too.

We're all making judgements based on very little information at the moment. If only these guys would fight each other... This is boxing after all....

There are a lot of intriguing potential matchups in the heavyweight division. Where is Trevor Bryan? What is Don King waiting for? Put him in there with somebody. If Kownacki crushes Arreola as expected a Kownacki/Hunter fight at Barclay's would do well as a co-feature! There are enough decent heavies. They just do not fight each other.

The top guys joining the WBSS wont happen. WBSS has or had deep pockets, but it was only enough to entice guys from less popular weight to participate. They won't have the money to pay Joshua, Wilder and Fury caliber fighters and guys who are close to a title shot wont join either.

However, a nice legit tournament between contenders, fringe contenders and prospects to produce a legit contender would be possible.

Hrgovic, Martin, Bryan, Joyce, Bakole, Wallin, Kabayel, Milas

                should be a good lineup.

Kabayel and Milas are fighting somewhere in europe and probably dont get as much money as they would get for the WBSS.

Joyce is already older and at the moment avoided, so he should be eager to participate.
bakole, wallin, bryan and martin wont probably get close to a title shot on their own, so they can prove themselve in the tournament.

hrgovic is a croatian and wont be a ticket seller in the US, so the WBSS should be his best option for him.

Yeah everything at heavyweight has dollar signs attached.

It worked for cruiser because that's not where the real money is.

The thing is the fighters could still make money from a tournament.

It's the promoters who are afraid of losing their investment that ruin it.
