It’s funny how a couple of gift decisions get forgotten about and people’s perception gets skewed. You’re talking about a man that basically beat Canelo twice but now people just look at the official record.

Then we wonder why fighters are so scared to lose their 0 and protect it. Context doesn’t matter after a few months.

The aging champ defeats the fan favorite in his prime. Kudos to him for doing it when most retire or can't compete at the highest level. That's what really happened. Canelo came close in the rematch, after losing the first fight by a wider margin. He made it a competitive war in the rematch and Canelo showed grit when he was hurt. He has time to eventually become Middleweight Champ. That's the true narrative. GGG still had something left in the tank and beat a great young fighter the first time and still had enough to do it again the second time in a classic match.

Alvarez never avoided lil g. That's a fallacy. If i remember correctly lil g said anyone from 154 to 168 until S.O.G a 168 lbr said me then lil g kept quiet, hell even Lara a 154 lbr said me and lil g kept quiet. Lil g has been the most called out avoided guy ever. He chooses to fight unknowns and no hopers (vanes off a 2yr lay off comes to mind)instead of going for it. Why not fight Andrade and try to claim some of the title? Answer is cause he wants no risk. Alvarez on the other hand has fought high risk fights that he could have and probably should have avoided. The Lara fight comes to mind it was a terrible stylistic match up. I personally had it for canelo but i may be biased, honestly Lara stunk up the joint and it's hard to score rounds for guys trying not to fight. Also he took on mayweather with a weight disadvantage and when still too green. Anyways Lil g is a joke, a decent fighter but still a joke.

No, it's true. Lara, even Ward waited until G would have a fight signed, THEN call him out. And what did Lara do to warrant a shot? He never fought at MW, never cleaned out HIS division. Lara has zero claim, and his fanboys who say G avoided him are just as ignorant. Yes, most believed that G would crush Alvarez, but just as Hagler didn't crush semi-retired Ray, a 36 year old G couldn't 'officially' get the deserved decision in the first bout. Considering how close it was...what would a 33 yr old G done to Alvarez? None of the big names were eager to fight G when it would have been most timely, but given the business of boxing it is understandable. And 154-168 was only a mantra to drum up attention....when he started the string of MW defenses, there was no reason to 1. go down to 154 for anything not worth a ton of money 2. go to 168 for anything not worth a ton of money. Chavez Jr backed out on him, Froch turned him down for the only lucrative SMW bouts. Ward at 168?? How much money did Kovalev earn fighting Ward? There is your answer for how enticing that bout would be for G.

If I failed to hit the nuance I wanted to, that’s on me. I chose the word legend (think Man who Shot Liberty Valance) and story early and made reference to how his “most ardent fans” might see it specifically and that whether it was all true, the perception was well monetized. He was delayed in spots but it can’t be all true considering all the titles he collected.

What I wanted to get at is here was a guy positioned to run specifically at the one big name moment and it didn’t stick the landing and might not ever.

If I missed sticking the landing myself here, well, hey, it happens.

See this is that bullshhh right here...he's a decent fighter yet the p4p best according to people around here had to go life and death with him for 24 rounds to at best eke out a razor-thin win in the second fight (the general consensus has always been Alvarez lost that first fight). Just reminding you that Canelo dropped the WBC belt rather than fight GGG. He had his reasons, but you can't change history with any type of spin here. He actively avoided GGG at that time.

I like how you used the merit argument on Lara, and the money argument on Ward. Putting everyone on notice from 154-168 was "only a mantra". Golovkin was never wrong and never ducked anybody. 164 or no fight lol
