I still don’t get this, he was born in America just like Cotto was, just like Margarito was. He was brought up in Mexicali, went to school there, fought there and had national titles as an amateur before coming back to America to set himself up. He can be whatever nationality he wants. To deny he is Mexican is as ignorant as denying he is American. He choose to rep Mexico from day 1 and I have no issues with that.

First off: I have been saying since day one that Ruiz has talent and would be a success...My posts can be found here. I did not even count him out against Joshua, saying "I have not seen him recently" and preferring to just not pick on that fight because of this fact.
Adore Ruiz, and I am not a Mexican warrior, just a white boy from East Harlem which brings me to by point:
Ruiz is a Mexican American. He was raised in this country. He has every right to honor his roots but he is about as Mexican as I am well... I am a lot of different things lol.
Yes he has that fighting spirit, yes he fights in a style that is Mexican in many fundamental respects, but those fast hands, that will of iron was fed on Carnitas from California!
I hope people do not see this as a slight against Mexicans but the fact is fellow Americans like myself took a lot of crap on these boards about Ruiz's dimensions when we proclaimed he would be a success and I deserve to revel in his success as much as the next guy...Messican or otherwise...
And for those saying Andy Ruiz is NOT a “Mexican” because he wasn’t born in Mexico doesn’t understand how Mexican parents raise their kids.

Both his parents are Mexican immigrants and he grew up just on the other side of the border, throwing distance to Mexico.
I don't blame him for his allegiance but I do feel he is dissing the US for not even mentioning the country that gave his family the opportunities they've had.

In the high desert, basically right on the border with Mexico, closer to Mexicali that any even remotely urban area in the state. I get what you're saying but you've got to understand perspective.
As a "white boy from East Harlem", let's make an example; the distance is a little bit suspect for the comparison, but imagine your experience weighed against the experience of a kid from Massena, NY (Wikipedia, lol; town is supposedly the northernmost in New York state, right on the Canadian border).
Now a white kid from there would still be American and a proud New Yorker and all that, but do you honestly think that the tastes sensibilities won't be partially shaped by what they've picked up by being near Canadians their whole lives?
And then imagine the kid is native; with family lines and traditions that he can point to that come from before there was a Massena, nevermind the split between Canada and the US.
Work with me here, lol (few native population that I know of have been able to recultivate those old traditions to have someone identify as (specific tribe) and American, and no idea if any of those tribes are in upstate New York).
Andy Ruiz Jr can likely tracking his lineage back a good ways, with his line likely staying in that same high desert for generation upon generation.
