Ruiz didn't come close to schooling him. AJ just made the mistake of trying to finish him when he dropped him by going on the inside and hooking with a guy with the shorter faster left hook.

AJ was trying to put on a show and get Ruiz out of there quick like Wilder got Brezeale out. But Ruiz is an all together different fighter to Brezeale and needed to be broken down from the outside and treated with more respect as he's actually tough and not so easy to get rid of that soon in the fight.

Not knocking Ruiz, he did a great job last night, but IMO this is just a temporary setback. Joshua obviously didn't train properly for Ruiz. He does have some key faults he has to correct, but I have confidence he'll get back in there again soon and build back up.

What happened to the rules of looking over a downed fighter in New York like Wilder was against Ortiz? Hmmm.

You won't be laughing as hard as I did when Wilder was schooled against an obese Fury coming off 3 years of drug abuse. AJ deals with fighters his size much better. You can see he's not really comfortable with the shorter guy.

I've always acknowledged Wilder having a punchers chance. But that's all it was. AJ is the superior boxer of the two.

I'll have to see how AJ reacts in the rematch with Ruiz to see if he still has what it takes to beat Wilder. But as it stands, at least Ruiz had the balls to fight him unlike Wilder with him setting up many fights that didn't include AJ. But don't worry yourself and your fantasies. AJ made the bad decision to try and end Ruiz after dropping him by swinging hooks with him on the inside. You don't do that with a guy who has a faster, shorter left hook. It was ******. He paid the price for it. He never seemed to recover from that and was badly effected by anything Ruiz landed from then on.

I can't see him making the same mistake in the rematch. But AJ's career is on the line next time out.

Strangely he seemed slow. He also uncharacteristically seemed like he didn't want to be there after he got nailed. I was surprised at how he reacted before the stoppage. I think that punch to the heart affected his breathing. The 80 % mental wasn't there.
