1) maybe he knew he was a bit overhyped and finally smiling at the fact that the jig was up? Like he could stop living a lie in a way.

Joshua made one huge mistake, thought Ruiz was more hurt than he really was - I think he wasn't hurt at all - opened up and traded punches. We knew Ruiz had fast compact punches. Poor Boxing IQ from Joshua here.
