PPL rely too much on boxrec ratings

i just looked at the boxing rec rankings for the 1st time
in their top 50 PFP fighters, there are only 3 fighters under bantamweight

there's obviously a heavy bias towards guys who fight in the U.S., above a certain wgt class, and who knows how else they base their criteria
and in many cases, when you look at their fighter star ratings, they only have 3 stars, such as melindo, taguchi.. who are certainly better than that
resulting in most ppl on this forum (who rely only on boxing rec) to say 'he hasn't fought anybody, etc., etc..'

I didn't know anyone was relying on their ratings or even referring to them. They are a great source for facts however.

Of course boxrec rankings aren't perfect and nobody's rankings are. The difference is boxrec ranks every pro boxer in the world in every weight class even if there are 10000 boxers in the weight class. The others only rank the top 10 or top 15. This way when a world champion defends his title against a guy boxrec ranks 132nd in the world you know it's a real cherry pick he should not be fighting.

          yes i realise the obvious

my point was their bias ranks lighter fighters (# of stars) much lower than e.g. americans who fight above LW
which to the novice fan, makes them judge the quality of fighters only on the number of boxrec stars

I like boxrec ratings they take out the favoritism in rankings. Most of you would Rank your favorite fighters high no matter how many losses they’ve had.
For example I hear, “losses don’t matter” on here frequently especially when mentioning Pacquiao and Duran. Boxrec accounts for losses, age of loss, age of opponent etc. I don’t see why they get so much hate.
