A lot of fighters do it, either out of frustration at losing or because they think they were robbed. Some classic cases include Morales walking out of the ring after losing a unanimous decision to Barrera, Vargas leaving the ring after being knocked out by De La Hoya, Forrest storming out of the ring after losing a majority decision to Mayorga, and Wright walking out after getting a draw with Taylor.
Vargas stormed out for a different reason than the others as he obviously had no case for claiming he won the fight. He was a broken man after being knocked out by the opponent he hated most. I think it was fine for Vargas to leave the ring, but he should have at least manned up and apologized to De La Hoya in the ring like Mayorga did when DLH crushed him this year.
Morales was robbed in the rematch with Barrera. There is no way around it. Morales clearly won 7 rounds, and I gave him another that was closer. Barrera did nothing the first half of the fight and only was effective in the last three rounds. Sure, he busted Morales up early, but he wasn't winning rounds...not at all. Morales gets the second nod from me for walking out, even though he probably should have stayed and answered questions, which he later came out to do after rethinking the situation. I'm pretty sure Barrera stayed in the ring after the first fight with Morales, which most people thought Barrera won, so Morales should have done the same if that was the case. Still, he was clearly robbed to make a trilogy.
A lot of people thought Forrest beat Mayorga in the rematch with cleaner, more effective punching. The problem is, he couldn't hurt Mayorga to keep him away. Mayorga kept getting close and throwing bombs, and Forrest would go down on slips almost every round til it became ridiculous. When you hit the canvas that much, there's no way you look like you're in control. That was a close fight that I scored a draw (one of the judges did as well), so Forrest should not have stormed out of the ring like a crybaby because by doing that, he made Mayorga look that much better. Shame on you, Vernon.
The last and latest case I'll mention is Wright's pathetic walkout after the draw with Taylor. That fight was as close as any most people have ever seen. There is no way in hell he can act like he dominated that fight and won a clear decision. Wright confirmed my su****ions that he obviously felt he had lost when he said he didn't want a rematch after Larry tracked him down in the locker room. Shame on you, Winky.
So what do you guys think? Are there any other instances you'd care to mention of boxers being sore losers or just downright frustrated to the point where they wouldn't even stay in the same ring with their conquerors?
