He is definitely gifted. I cannot remember such an aggressive fighter being so good defensively. Maybe Mike Tyson in his prime had as good a defence? His footwork is among the best I have ever seen.

The only thing he is not very good at is his back foot game. He does it, but his offence lowers considerably.

He will likely go down as an ATG, probably not #1 though obviously.

The thing about Lomachenko is he's amazing to watch, his fights are exciting, and the things he does both defensively and offensively are artful and thrilling. People will be watching his fights on YouTube for centuries. People may rank Mayweather above him historically when all is said and done, but honestly people don't go back and watch Mayweather fights that much.

He has an amazing résumé given he's only had 14 fights. And he's a two-time olympic gold medalist and amateur wunderkind.

He also gets major credit in my book for being willing to fight anybody. Very few fighters today have that quality, how can you even be in contention for greatness/p4p if you won't fight the best?

It's all subjective, and who knows what he'll do in the next 3 - 5 years. Certainly he'll be considered one of the best of this era and will rank somewhere on the list of ATGs, who knows how high.

Good post; I agree with you that being from a small country doesn’t really help him...

Good point. I agree he would have had a much better shot at ATG status (as a pro) if he had turned pro when he was younger. Especially if he had been given easier competition in his early fights and kept his “zero”, I feel that he would have more respect as a fighter, at least from casual fans.

The Salido fight — I agree he didn’t look too good in that one. I don’t really count it against him though, cause I think Salido fought a bit dirty in that fight (IMHO).
Not to mention that most boxers have much easier comp in their second pro fight.

I think what gives him a pass in my eyes is that Salido fought dirty, it was his second fight, and then he went on to beat Gary Russel in his next fight (who is miles ahead of Salido...)

What are your thoughts? Do you feel the Salido fight seriously damages Lomachenko’s legacy?

He could easily be 40-0 rather than 13-1 and then casuals would judge him differently.

Looks like its getting a bit harder to get the big names to fight him at the moment, thats guna stall it too. But just as a Boxer he is something really special. Seems to be good at literally everything. A bit more power would be nice but the vast majority of what he throws is really short and fast and point scoring more than wound up with intentions of hurt. Hes can put meat on his shots though, he can hit hard enough to make a difference when he wants to.

And the best thing about it for me is im still not 100% convinced he is P4P number1, we have Canelo, Crawford, Uysk and then we got Inoue rushing up the table as far as im concerned. I love Boxing.
                  Thanks for the great reply,

I have two questions for you (it sounds like you know your boxing):

                  1. Who would you most like to see Lomachenko fight?

                  2. Who poses the biggest threat to him at this stage in his career, or of derailing his path to greatness & unification?

I would most like to see him face Tank Davis. Just cuz hes had so much smack to talk about Loma yet doesnt seem to move up a weight even though he struggles to weigh in at 130.

I think Davis at 135 is a dangerous fight for Loma, i think Lopez poses his biggest threat in the division right now and maybe Commey but id expect him to beat them both reasonably comfortably. I actually agree with Mexican Puppet, the real threats are at 140. Think he starts to push the boundaries physically at 140.

Missed Garcia out as he seems to want fight at Welter. But that would be a good fight if he came back down for Loma. Quite possibly his toughest option.

Honestly, I think he beats Tank Davis and Mikey Garcia.

And those young guns like Devin Haney, Teofimo Lopez, Ryan Garcia... he not only beats them... he makes them look like fools.
