Why is Wilder so unashamedly ducking?

It's obvious to everyone by now, even the staunchest Wilder followers, that he simply does not like the idea of a undisputed title fight with Joshua.
I do believe AJ would win, but Wilder has that puncher's chance, he should just go for it.

His reputation is so tattered now, after so much ducking of Joshua (and Whyte I suppose) - is it any wonder he can't sell fights or gain fans?

WTF Deontay, just make the fight. Or at least TRY to mnake the fight, he doesn't even talk about making the fight, other than to "promise you all" that it will happen, sometime in a few years, possibly maybe.

STFU and make the fight - your daughter should be ashamed of you.

Because US (not all of them, but a vocal minority) fans allow him to by watching his fights and supporting him.

Holding that belt hostage because there are ZERO other US HW fighters coming through to represent America.

Deyonce is the only hope for American HW boxing for at least the next 5 years. They need to protect him to stop the UK and Europe owning the division and taking the money away from the US.

He does whatever Haymon and the rest of the suits tell him to.

I absolutely believe that he is being encouraged to avoid and duck Joshua and Whyte. But....he is a man and if he actually wants to have a go at being remembered he should tell them to stfu and go ahead and make the fight. American boxing is on it's arse, especially at HW, so you're right - him hostaging the belt keeps it stateside - on the other hand, he could really boost US boxing by giving it a go. Sadly, he is only to happy to kid himself into listening to their advice. They'll be telling him it is for bigger money in the future (this fight will only get smaller anyway), and he is relieved that they have given him an excuse to duck.

Guy pisses me off, and the morons who think he wants it are ignoring what is right in front of their eyes: a guy openly saying he wants no part of Joshua. We will need to wait till Whyte beats him, or Ajagba, or Fury.

I agree he's held the belt hostage. Blame Al and the WBC for that. There's no excuse for being the champ for this long, barely fighting a mandatory, and not attempting a single unification. He's a genuine star with a paper title.

But the current situation is different to what's gone before. This isn't ducking, it's marination. He's going to make a small fortune fighting guys who can't beat him. Then he's going to make an absolute fortune later fighting a guy who could beat him. When he does, even if he's past his prime, we'll all buy the PPV and he'll be proved right.

It's terrible for the sport - a real chance to grow it for the next generation is being missed. But it's probably right for Wilder and I can't blame him for that.

That said... I've got a weird feeling we'll edge closer to the fight in the next few days. There's been a sudden change of tone from Wilder and Hearn (the only two who really talk). I want to see what happens in the ring after the fight on Saturday.

My money would be on this fight happening in 2022ish but, like I said, just a sneaky su****ion something is cooking.

To be honest with you i ask the same questions myself, Is it because they don't expect much from him like they are used to with their previous champs? Is it because he isn't as famous? I mean the pressure on Joshua in the UK, you could tell in his last fight. No one is going to put up with him not getting that final belt, and that's a boxer with only 22 fights, with Wilder it seems they are content with him having that one belt to parade around, there is no push for a guy that has been a pro for 11 years and going.

If his team felt the pressure from the american public maybe they would try and push him on, so far all i hear is "He is emotional" "They tried to make the fight" "They didn't want it"...So instead of looking forward and make the fight, they always go backward and revisit what happened a year ago as the excuse why the fight isn't happening in 2018...

OK what about now? Forget what happened in the past, what about now? "We offered them 50m"...oh boy lol

Because a lot of his countrymen still defend him.

He's 34 years old soon, has ONE decent win in his entire career and that's it.

But you know people still defend him, it's all everyone else's fault.

Time is ticking down on his career and he's wasting time fighting Ortiz again.

If he fights that fat ugly guy next after that then ends up fighting AJ and losing aged 35 you know the excuse will be his age. Well I don't want to hear it.

Ha ha. If we each counted our money it'd be a close thing. My daughter drives a Mercedes convertible to university, which is all paid for. If he took the AJ / DAZN deal though he'd be miles ahead of me.

I think he'd rather leave the DAZN deal alone and just continue to be labelled a coward.

                    The coward.
