Does chicken-legs Wilder disprove the idea that punch power comes from the legs up?

The adage in boxing is that the power of a punch starts from the legs, hips and core until, finally, the force travels out through your fist.

However Deontay is built like a paraplegic below the waist. How does he do it?

He has huge hands. Have you ever seen him with his wraps on?

He's generating kinetic energy, not competing in a powerlifting contest.

Don't need huge legs to generate speed and momentum. His punches are quick and straight, with plenty of torque. Too much sometimes, which causes him to be off balance when he misses.

You assume because his legs are thin that that they aren't strong. Its a foolish assumption.

His arms are levers. That length combined with arm speed, torque through his punches...boom.

I don't like Wilder at all - I think his career has been the definition of protected..but man, he can punch.

No, it seems like it might just strengthen the saying. Even a skinny legged guy can generate power if the punch is thrown properly, from the legs up. Obviously physics (mass, acceleration, etc) and "natural" power is playing a factor, but it's a trait seen in boxing across different weight classes....sometimes those skinny, wirey guys can generate bigtime snap in their punches
