That theory was smashed when Floyd took his title @ 154 in 2007! I don't know where this "bigger is better" theory comes from? People who know boxing, know that theory is totally bogus! Skills pay the bills!

Tell that to the people who ridiculed that fight a long time ago in favor of Oscar. If you have time to search the post history of this forum, you will see what people were saying about this (mis)match-up. That fight opened up as a 4:1 Oscar favorite when it was announced. De La Hoya had little to fear from the light-hitting Forbes, a former 130-pound champion fighting at 150 pounds, and it showed. De La Hoya attacked from the opening bell, and the fight soon settled into a predictable pattern, with De La Hoya stalking Forbes and punishing him with combinations to the body and head.

But De La Hoya was greeted by scattered boos by the crowd at the end of the fight after failing to either put Forbes down or stop him.

"I'm happy I fought Forbes," De La Hoya said. "Now I feel sharp after a year's layoff."

De La Hoya, who says he will retire at the end of the year after two more fights, needed an impressive performance to help set up a second fight with Mayweather.

De La Hoya hand-picked Forbes, a decent fighter with little power, to be an opponent who would showcase his skills while at the same time not pose too much of a threat to his plans...

The fight hardly seemed suited for an outdoor arena and a prime-time audience on HBO, considering one fighter had lost two of his last three fights and the other had dropped three of his last five.

So Oscar had to drop 3 lbs and not 7.

i hope you're also throwing shade at the floyd/canelo fight too then? oscar fought forbes at 150, then came down 3lbs to fight pac at 147! that's 3 lbs. you know, 1 lb different from when floyd drained canelo down to 152 from 154.

Well, win or lose Pac ain't got many fights left. Maybe Crawford if he beats thurman.
But thurman confident isn't he? He must have watched every Pac fight and there's 70 fights so I'm sure thurman thinks he can beat pac in his sleep

Floyd "the smaller man" beat Oscar, "the bigger man" in May 2007 at 154! I don't know why people thought Oscar was going to be better @ 147! Did they see Oscar at the weigh in?

Weight Problem Hounds Oscar De la Hoya, Might End Up Like Erik Morales

This is the first time that the dela Hoya will fight on the Welterweight division after spending most of his career fighting in the higher weight class particularly the Middleweight division.

Recently Pacquiao wrote on his column in Philboxing.com that he believed dela Hoya will encounter difficulties in making 147 lbs despite the golden boy's confidence in hitting the scale right during the official weigh-in on December '05.

Dela Hoya last fight at the 147lbs was on March 24, 2001, the first time Pacquiao also fought in US territory against Ledwaba whom he knocked out to capture the Super bantamweight title.

If de la Hoya's weight would be a dilemma, I see a situation wherein the golden boy will probably end up like Eric Morales who drained himself on the third fight against Pacquiao in 2006.

If we recalled, Morales' loss was attributed to his weight after "El Terrible" claimed that he has difficulties in making the 130lbs for that fight which greatly affect his ability. After that fight Morales ventured on the lightweight division until he retired.

Health experts and nutritionists pointed out that a person who is loosing weight will have a tendency of also decreasing its strength but on the other hand a bonus of obtaining speed. In the case of dela Hoya, he is facing two obstructions a long his way that he should clear.

First, is his weight and second is his training. Pacquiao, on the hand is not worrying about his weight because he can eat as many time as he want while his strength is increasing. That means, Pacquiao is not bothered by a weight issue which gives him the ample time of focusing on his training.

Pacquiao has already logged 131 rounds of sparring against three bigger spar-mates. And the Pacman Team are happy on the progress of the Filipino Boxer.

Just recently, Pacquiao, knocked down one of his sparring partners. That's a strong message for dela Hoya, whose alternatively was black-eyed in a sparring session.

The move to welterweight wasn't easy. De La Hoya had been fighting at 154 or higher for the last seven years.

He was able to make the weight. He was reportedly on weight even weeks before the fight. At the official weigh-in, he came in 145 - two full pounds below the welterweight limit. It was De La Hoya's lowest weight since 1997 - when he was a junior welterweight. Despite all that, Pacquiao was a huge underdog in the fight.

Squeezing down in weight for Pacquiao had physically drained De La Hoya of his strength and energy. Even during his ring walk, De La Hoya already felt that his body had nothing left and he was going to take a beating once he stepped in the ring.

"I'll never forget walking to ring that night," De La Hoya told ESPN. "I knew that I was going to get beat up already. It was like walking into a slaughter house and knowing that this is it. I've never felt that before in my life. Imagine going into the ring, knowing that you're going to get beat. I might as well have run back to the dressing room and taken off, but I've always decided to fight but I was a dead man walking when I stepped into the ring against Pacquiao. I had nothing left."

this was not about age!! this was about weight! stop trying to deflect. now you bringing up all kinds of excuses! floyd made canelo came down to 152 from 154! floyd was actually trying to make canelo come down to 147 instead!! if you wanna throw shade at the pac/oscar fight because oscar came down 3lbs then do the same with floyd/canelo.

so now it's about age? well, pac is 40 going into 41 fighting thurman who is 30. but i dont see you running around dissing thurman for picking a 40 year old? in fact, you actually did the opposite and said pac picked thurman because keith didnt look too good lol.
