Isn't that part of the fun of sports thought? People rooting for their own?

Seems you're being very unfair. Lennox Lewis was clearly the best of his generation. He beat a shell of Tyson because Tyson ducked him relentlessly until it was time to cash out. He beat Holyfield once and likely deserved the win in the draw. He beat Klitschko.

As for Brook, he came to the US and beat Porter fair and square.

You have a point about Hatton and Mayweather, but, so what? Boxing would be a lot better off if American fans were as loyal and dedicated as British fans.

This right here is the correct answer. You'll see similar among the Mexicans and Eastern Europeans.
Have a beer, sing your songs and support your team/fighter for ever more, win or lose.

One of the most popular football songs is "we're by far the greatest team the world has ever seen", sung mostly by fans who know that their team isn't actually any good. It's support rather than overrating.
Can't see how people hate on that tbh.

one ATG win> one elite win.

Mcguigan had the higher level achievement, its a fact.

Its highly significant that you only picked up on the calzaghe element in my post that covered 4 brit boxers - its very clear it is you that is targeting calzaghe, not me - I simply replied to the other guy on all the boxers he mentioned. But I forgive you for it, as you are obviously a big fan.

The irish may not forgive you for your casual racism towards them, trying to place an elite win over an ATG one, just cos Barry is irish is doesnt mean you can automatically class his ATG win as invalid.

I presume you mean Kessler as the elite SMW. Who else at SMW was elite (or now regarded as an ATG) was there for him to fight though? I would also rate McGuigan's achievements as higher, but I don't think Calzaghe's record defences and resume are to be sniffed at. There are hall of famers who never achieved what Calzaghe did.

I dont know much about calzaghe, let me delve and come back to you, I only know wat everyone knows such as he is famous for fighting barely anyone in his ten year reign. Thats kind of why you dont even need to make that presumption, let alone me confirm its kessler.

I'll come back to you on it sometime, thanks. I will do my research meantime.

We're only a small country so we get pumped for our sportsman basically. Hatton was on a tear at the time, but had a lot of casual support. In honesty, I think most thought it was 50/50 with Spence and Brook apart from casuals who had never heard of Spence.

But Calzhage would've been a tough fight for Ward, he's got good speed, but also can adjust and fight scrappy/dirty if he needs to. It wouldn't have been a clear or easy win for Ward if he did manage it – it would def need a rematch.

And Lennox underachieved at times, but he was a great heavyweight – he accomplished a lot dude, if you can't see that YDKSAB.

crazy to think ward would walk through joe, the man had a good chin at SMW (though it seemed weaker at LHW). The real problem would be getting joe in the ring with ward, joe pulled out of fights serially when Toad-Frank linked him with a good opponent. Did joe fear picking up losses? Reading on him now, its just one after another good opponent replaced by a can, for years, with the occasional exception.

On top of which, Ward would want the fight in oakland, and joe would never agree to that, cardiff was his oakland.
