Comments Thread For: Russell: I Compete Only Once A Year Because Guys Won't Fight Me

NEW YORK Brian Custer posed a more than reasonable question to Gary Russell Jr. during a press conference Thursday. Showtime's moderator wanted to know if this would be the calendar year within which Russell actually fights twice. The WBC featherweight champion smiled, as inactivity is one of the things he is most asked about.

Sure thing ground hog Gary, you stepped up once and got schooled. As your record shows you are all too comfortable fighting bums for the rest of your "boxing career".

Gary uses boxing as a stimulus for his other endeavors.

To be honest he used to say it was because of injuries.

No need for Russell to sit around waiting on a Santa Cruz fight that isn’t gonna happened. They need to get the ball rolling on the Tank Davis fight. That fight will be huge in the DC area. And being that Russell is quite a bit smaller than Tank. This is like a big fight that Mayweather would be comfortable putting Gervonta in.

I don't believe that, I love watching Russell Jr fight which makes it a pity that he only fights once a year. He needs to pick up his activity and fight three times a year, granted I think he might have some point with maybe getting big names to fight him, that could be a problem.

Two guys who are more bark than bite fighting each other? Yeah right. They are perfectly happy fighting safe opponents for easy money. Records prove as much.

Have the media asked Leo Santa Cruz about fighting Gary Russell? If he's ducking then let's get the truth out.

All these guys are ranked in the top 10 by Ring, TBRB, and BoxRec and all have a belt (even if nobody cares about the Regular or IBO)
                    WBA (Super): Leo Santa Cruz
                    WBA (Regular): Xu Can
                    IBF: Josh Warrington
                    WBO: Oscar Valdez
                    IBO: Tugstogt Nyambayar

You're telling me not one of these dudes would take a fall fight with Russell? BS.
