Deontay Wilder demands staggering £80M to fight Anthony Joshua in heavyweight unification showdown

Boxing fans are desperate to see Joshua put his abilities to the test against the Bronze Bomber

DEONTAY WILDER expects to receive a whopping £80million purse to fight Anthony Joshua.

The WBC champ has revealed he would be open to fighting the undefeated Brit for his WBO, WBA and IBF titles if negotiations are done correctly.

Wilder, 33, wants Joshua to take a leaf out of Tyson Fury's books by negotiating a deal without the media circus.

Boxing fans are desperate to see Joshua put his abilities to the test against the Bronze Bomber.

And Wilder has given fans a glimmer of hope that a deal can be arranged but expects to pocket a fortune from the scrap.

When asked whether he expects to receive nine figures in US dollars, he said: "Most definitely

“We know the magnitude of the fight. The heavyweight division is so exciting now, the money is so huge in the sport right now.

“It’s one thing to watch fighters and know what they’re capable of doing, but the whole business side is another thing."

Wilder's co-manager Shelly Finkel admitted that Joshua's team started with an opening offer of £8m which was increased to £31m in just eight months.

Finkel added: "Eight months ago they [Team Joshua] offered $10m (£8m), then they offered $15m (£12m), then they offered $20m (£16m). Now they came back with $40m (£31m). Deontay is only getting bigger so you can imagine what it’s going to be when they do fight."

Wilder earned a career high purse in December when his draw with Tyson Fury earned him around £11m.

He defends his belt against his mandatory challenger Breazeale on Saturday night in Brooklyn New York.

stating your financial goals for a fight, saying youre open to it when you had recently shot it down, isnt negotiatiing in public

when both sides get together and actually talk "turkey" thats when both sides need to be quiet and stop running to the press on a daily basis

this isnt a public negotiating tactic at all..not even close

that would be like saying when AJ said "show me 50 mil and ill sign tomorrow" was AJ negotiating in public...and i wouldnt say that at all

I hate to admit it but he is not wrong. Just as long as both him and Joshua keep winning and the more the fight marinates, it's going to be worth a lot more than that. Just look at the Mayweather/Pacquiao bout for example.

Exactly. If welterweights can split $300m’s then these guys can get close to $100m’s each. Plus it really is starting to build momentum. Hope it happens soon.
