If Hurd pressures with his jab and starts throwing from a distance to pressure and come in yes. To stay outside to try to outbox JRock I say no. When he gave him distance JRock was out smarting him and beating him to the punch.

I have seen Hurd use his range before so I know he can do it. He usually gets outboxed with guys with skills until he catches up to them.

He just can't walk in like he has been doing or sit outside. He gets hit so much that he cannot not stay at the middle distance.

As far as i can tell, Hurd needs a new trainer. He’s a really good fighter, but needs to learn to box and needs a coach who can provide round by round instructions. Garcia? Abel?

Totally agree. He needs to work his way inside instead of just walking in face-first. Although J-Rock was winning the jab battle, Hurd looked so much worse on that front than I thought he would. Many think he's a weight bully with no boxing ability, and he sure looked like it on Saturday. I'm still waiting to see the Hurd I saw in 2015:

He wasn't perfect here, but had he kept developing, he'd be near unbeatable at LMW. It's this Hurd that could potentially reign supreme at 154-160. I really think the weight draining has been affecting his performances and further development. He's become too willing to abuse his chin/punch resistance and simply walk guys down. He used to be tall, slippery and composed counter-puncher who seemed comfortable moving forward and backwards. Being a brawler doesn't suit him.

The guy has reach advantage and I don't see why he can't jab, move his feet and head and box.
Hurd is not as talented and fast as some other fighters. Hes more like a black Margarito than a new Mayweather or something.
I think Elite-Boxers who are tough will always beat him to the punch.

And also hurd wouldn't benefit fighting outside in my opinion.he's a true brawler in the inside.i recommend he hit the weights get stronger add more power.if he had more power he would have had him outta there

I like Hurd but he's shipping too much punishment to the head - this guy is a prime candidate for dementia in later life as it stands based on fights to date.

If he wants to rerun J-Rock or move up to fight Korobov (another guy who ships too much punishment despite reasonable defence) or D-chenko then he must somehow improve his defence with better head movement coming forward and getting a more authorative jab going to make use of his reach would be a good idea - but he's already 28 so not sure how much he can learn new tricks (though Williams seems to have picked up a few new ones and he's a year older).

If they meet again I still will be rooting for Jrock again but if Hurd makes some adjustments he can win.
