It's hard to say because they all get hit more than they need to. Thurman, Crawford, and Spence all have great defensive ability but their bravado tends to get them hit.

We'll find out for real when they start fighting each other.

Terrance Crawford has the best defence

and he is also the most technically correct welter

he is the man to beat at welter, not Spence

only Spence could beat Crawford at 147, that fight will be tense

None of them are exceptional defensively but if I had to choose, it would be between Thurman and Crawford. I feel like Crawford has more diversity in how he defends but I've seen Thurman hit cleanly less consistently versus better opposition. The thing I don't like about Thurman is that he only uses his legs. He doesn't do the little things like smother or tie up, especially when he's been hurt. Crawford usually gets caught because he's aggressive so that's the trade off but when he doesn't want to get hit, he can make it really difficult.

I think it's close between Crawford and Spence. Neither of them loses even one round very often, They don't get hit much. Spence did get tagged at times by Brook but Brook is a very sharp welterweight who would land on Crawford too. I would say Spence has the best defense with Crawford a close second. Thurman got hit a bunch by a mediocre Lopez in his last fight.

Honestly, you're right. He's the hardest to hit consistently and has proved it with big fights. Should have specified the "new" era of welterweights.

It must be pacquiao. Floyd who is a sharp shooter couldn't even hit pac clean.

Crawford for sure. Spence's defense is his only real weakness. Thurman ain't what he used to be and reflexes are slow now. Garcia gets hit too much.

Crawford DOES get careless but he chooses his moments wisely and it's not just a lack of skill. He does it when he wants to really sit down on his punches and inflict damage. When he needs to be defensive, he's a ghost.

... there's a difference between "the fighter with the best defense" and "the best defense fighter"... FMJr was the epitome of "the best defense fighter"...

Thank you. Thurman could disengage and pull backwards with his speed and athletics, but in his comeback when he got tired he showed he wasent all that slick defensively. I also agree I saw Spence take a few early against Brook, didn’t look steady. Course his defence against Mikey to me anyway was the most noticeable skill. Crawford avoids punches on an uncanny level too. I don’t even care to speculate I just want to see them fight. If I had to say, I think they would stymie each other offensively.
