Remember he requested $10 mil from Matchroom. However, Eddie countered with a $7 mil offer. Therefore, if he turned down $7 mil then chances are he has a back up plan to receive more than the $10 mil elsewhere.
If not he would have gone to the highest bidder. At this point, Al Haymon would do just about anything to keep his stable intact. Even if it means over inflating his fighter's purses.
Besides, Ortiz probably prefers fighting Wilder more anyway because he came very close to winning the last time. He probably feels he has a better chance of defeating Deontay than Joshua and for more money as well.Last edited by alexjust; 05-10-2019, 06:58 AM.

I see the same crowd are still trying to blame Hearn for the fight not happening.
They turned down $7m. After Hearn outed the details, Ortiz's team came out and said the offer wasn't a low ball, it was a mistake that they turned the offer down, and they were blaming each other in-house for the mistake.
And there's till people trying to blame Hearn and cry 'lowball'.
You guys need help, you're trying way too hard.

They just threw that figure out there just to see how desperate Eddie Hearn was and to squeeze as much money out of him as possible because they knew that he was in dire straits for a last minute opponent.
In addition, they knew full well in advance that they were never going to take the fight in the first place because they had been instructed not to. It was all a scam from the start.
Lastly, one would have to be a damn fool to believe that Team Ortiz would have gotten more than $10mil from Matchroom Sport and Anthony Joshua as a last minute replacement opponent. Which was why Team Ortiz priced themselves out because they knew that they were never going to get that asking price to begin with.

Because in this instance the fighter blamed his own team for the fight not happening, the manager blamed the promoter and the promoter admitted they screwed up.
But you're blaming Hearn. The agendas on these boards are next level.
