This was to be expected going head to head with Canelo-Jacobs. ESPN could have got the main event in the ring before Canelo-Jacobs started but they stalled for time and they started at an identical time.Comment

With the ease in which Artur Beterbiev turned away the challenge of Radivoje Hot Rod' Kalajdzic, the stiffer competition-it seems-turned out to be the fight for viewership. The unbeaten light heavyweight titlist made his official debut as a Top Rank-exclusive boxer in his May 4 win over Kalajdzic at the Stockton Arena in Stockton, Calif. The title fight topped an ESPN tripleheader which produced a telecast average of 480,000 viewers according to Nielsen Media Research.

Top Rank and Rick Mirigian look like they're about to do with Flores Jr. in Stockton what they did with Jose Ramirez in Fresno.
Crowd was over 10,000...most of it for Flores, but I saw a number of people there with shirts for another local fighter, Marco Arroyo, and there was a sizeable contingent of Filipinos there for Ancajas...who got a lot more cheers coming to the ring than I would have expected.
(It was Ancajas' third straight fight in Northern/Central California....Fresno, Oakland, Stockton).
I'd guess 80% or more of the arena left after Flores.
The fight was never going to draw much on TV...but I imagine the results in the ring were as good as they could have hoped.
Flores Jr. had a highlight reel KO, Ancajas had his best performance in a while and Beterbiev manhandled Kalajdzic.Last edited by Mitchell Kane; 05-07-2019, 01:57 PM.Comment

ESPN put Kovalev-Alvarez on ESPN+, Showtime put Stevenson-Gvozdyk on regular Showtime at the same time the Wilder-Fury PPV started on another channel, ESPN then put Gvozdyk-Ngumbu up against Porter-Ugas on regular Fox I think, and now Beterbiev they put on at the same time as Canelo-Jacobs.
Is the Boxing Establishment perhaps trying to sabotage the ratings of a division full of mostly foreign boxers? Otherwise it seems very strange that such an exciting talent loaded division would consistently be given dates when the fewest people possible will watch their fights.Comment

It's not that promoters/advisors are trying to sabotage their competitors, it's just that they have too many dates to fill. DAZN has like 20 US dates, SHO has like 12 dates, FOX has like 10 dates, FS1 has 12 dates, ESPN has like 30 dates....So what are they going to do? You will unfortunately be seeing a plenty of counter programming going on.Comment
