Winners meet in a final eliminator.
Lopez doesn't have time to go through two eliminators before a title shot. Plus Abdullaev will wait until after Ramadan, plus at least 10 weeks to recover and train. So mid-September for his fight with Haney. Then how long until Haney-Lopez would happen...
Lopez will be at 140 before he would ever get to Loma through the WBC mandatory.

    • It's a good thing Loma is getting the belt I'm tired of these young fighters wanting to be champions when its convenient but when people call for them to fight the elite of the division its "aww they still just a little baby they not ready for solid foods"(Davis, Munguia). You want the belt then beat Loma that goes for Lopez and Haney. If there is an issue with beating Loma for it then you dont deserve to call yourself champion in the first place.

          • I understand why people feel a bit bad for the guys who might have thought they were going to fight for the title. I always felt bad for mandatories who kept getting passed over.

They are doing the right thing, fighting their way up the ranks, and then circumstances keep them for getting a shot.

However, they should all know the rules of the sanctioning bodies, and they should all be aware that this can happen. Their team should really be anticipating this kind of outcome - although that gets harder if the sanctioning body is giving them false hope.

I do think that unification should be a higher priority than honouring mandatory positions. I also think that some fighters try to get themselves into contention with sanctioning bodies that they think have the weakest level of competition - so they are technically earning their place by getting a mandatory, but it isn't always the most courageous path.

The decision, in isolation, is the right one for boxing.

Personally I'm really happy that Loma is going to get another belt. It is a shame that Mikey decided to vacate, as that has been the #1 fight I have wanted to see for years, and I think it is the one which Loma really wanted the most as well.

hes the unified WBA Super and WBO champion at lightweight...

hes done much much more than the top ten in the WBC rankings.

Also, unification fights supersedes any conventional title fights.
Unification is against other champions, not for vacant belts.

                  He isn't leaving.

He promised to stop talking about Loma, then went on a month long rampage of ranting about Loma.

If he says he's leaving, it means he will be posting here non-stop.

I see all this as a good thing. Davis cannot stay at 130 forever, and if he does move to 135 next year, Floyd cannot swerve Loma if he is undisputed. Then we get to see the fight we all want to see.
