Comments Thread For: Diaz: Shakur Stevenson The Best Boxer at 126, But Lacks Power

Featherweight contender Christopher Diaz already began to analyze the options for his next commitment which could take place between the months of August and September. The featherweight, who comes back from a second setback, which occurred last month in New York, is still hoping to face opponents such as the featherweight world champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), Oscar Valdez, Jessie Magdaleno and former champ Carl Frampton.

For whatever reason Shakur decided to let off the gas and coast towards the final rounds of the fight. I saw him clearly hurt Diaz.

He wont grow into his strength until around 25. If you look at Stevenson it still looks like hes going through puberty and this is no knock on him just re-affirming my stance that he don't have his man strength yet.

Diaz saying Shakur is "the best boxer at 126" when the best guy he's faced has been Ito & the best guy Shakur has faced is Diaz seems a bit of a reach. The power thing I think we already have seen & know.

That said Shakur clearly has skills & I think him winning a belt at some point in his career, & likely within the next 2-3 years, is a near lock, but idk that I can envision him being the #1 guy at all or for very long if he can knock off the right guy or find a favorable situation to be #1, which TR will find him if its there to be found, or be the superstar lotsa people seem to be feeling like is going to happen.

Good luck to him proving me wrong doe. I'm never mad mfers achieving big things in boxing making me be wrong. I'm in it for the moment more than I'm in it for being right & a mfer doing something you didn't think them capable of is always a moment if only for you.

            What?!?!

Whats the science on this? I wanna see some peer reviewed studies & a power point presentation or something.

I'm a conspiracy theorist on all this "man strength" bs doe. I've seen 15 year olds with so called "man strength". And I've seen mfers who been weak from day 1 til day last.

Granted you can get stronger if you put in actual work. I'm not denying that, but there isn't a day a male human reaches where he suddenly just wakes up 20% stronger then the day before & there is no trajectory post-puberty where you just naturally gain 5% jumps in strength per year or some such sh^t til you fully graduate to your "man strength". This "man strength" theory is nuts.

Eh. I can't fault him for that. Diaz was a huge jump up in class. Get the W, get the sexy W next time. Its boring to fans I get that side of it, but I get the other side of it to with what went down in your estimation.

Idk if Arum was just retro-actively hyping the W or not (I didn't hear this pre-fight but maybe it was said pre-fight too idk tbf), but I tend to think this is true. But anyway Arum claimed no one with TR wanted to make the Shakur vs Diaz fight except Team Shakur. That was a risky move for Team Shakur to make & it was a risk for TR if Shakur got knocked off in that fight so Shakur going for the W over the sexy W makes a lot of sense.

Your body hits a series of peaks during your life. Combine them now to be stronger, sharper and faster whatever your age

Usually athletes peak earlier than non athletes so at 25 its safe to say Stevenson will be at full strength & muscle mass.

There is a science to it but genetics do play a role. Its like a teen boy goes through puberty at the same age as his dad but will likely get the physical characteristics of the moms side of the family. Its not 100% certain but is likely moreso to be true.

Says 30 not 25 in what you linked.

                  Muscle mass

                  You peak at 30

Live it now Train for at least 75 minutes a week with floor exercises that target your core. “Your physical strength peaks at around 30, followed by a general decline in muscle mass as you age,” says Gladwell. “This can be countered by ensuring you work your core properly each week, in blocks of at least 10 mins per session.” Gladwell recommends you start with this simple exercise: “On all fours, lift one arm and the opposite leg at the same time, before switching and repeating.” Just don’t drop off to sleep, grandad.
I don't deny you have a prime or peak period of various things including strength or that you can improve your power/strength through training. And that it can differ for different people. Which is what the article you linked seems to be saying.

I am calling bs that "man strength" is a real thing. There are strong people of any age. There are weak people of any age. There are people of any age who improve how strong they are through work. There are increases in how strong one is from transition from a boy to a man or puberty. There is nothing that a post-puberty man goes through on some magical day or in some magical period of time where his power/strength is enhanced beyond what I mentioned. Or if there is I'd legit love to see the proof & science of it.

If Shakur puts in work he might improve his power/strength to some degree. But his natural power/strength is what it is for the most part today & if he's not working on it now its not just gonna show up one day.
