I don't know how people even started talking about this in the first place, but it's not a fight I ever saw hardcore fans talking about or caring about until the biased LDBC media started gaslighting AJ fans about the fight as a method to turn Wilder into a star so Al could make big $ events with Wilder in the US not involving AJ or any prime top opponents whatsoever.
Why do boxing fans let the media tell them what fights to be interested in, and what fights not to be? What prime opponents has Wilder fought to suggest he would even be competitive vs AJ and that it wouldn't be a huge mismatch letdown? After all the buildup, this fight could end in two rounds after only a handful of punches landed by either guy. We might literally have waited more years for this fight to happen (correction: for people to just stfu about it already) than the number of punches we will actually watch exchanged in the fight itself if it happens.
If Wilder actually fights and beats top prime opponents, like Tyson Fury now that he's really back and in shape from his ordeal, or even a Dillian Whyte, then of course, start beating the drums for him to face AJ, but until then, why would I be interested in seeing it?
Right now that fight is more similar to Kovalev vs Yarde than anything else, except it's even worse because AJ is in his prime unlike Kovalev.Stop acting like it's some big meaningful fight. AJ stopped the best heavyweight of the prior era, who still had a bit left in the tank. He's shown he's a good modern super heavyweight. Wilder's career has been the complete opposite. His decision-maker Shelley Finkel even said Wilder wasn't ready for Klitschko at some point before then. He gets spectacular knockouts vs C-level guys just like Yarde does, or very old/out of shape/unhealthy opponents, but also just like Yarde, he hasn't even proven he can last a single round vs top prime opposition, so why would anyone be hyped or excited to pick HIM out as the opponent of choice for AJ over guys who have actually given fans reason to believe they belong in the same ring as him?
I mean come on it's ridiculous. Just stop bringing this ****** fight up. Actually remember how most of you weren't even calling for the fight, and it was the biased media with their agendas who put the idea in your heads. Don't let your opinion be swayed so easily. And don't get me wrong, I'm excited for Kovalev-Yarde, it's a fun intriguing matchup at least on paper, but that's because Kovalev is a little washed. As I said, Joshua is prime. Even still, I'm not saying Joshua-Wilder wouldn't also be intriguing going in, with the potential for a fun action fight, but let's stop treating it like something different. Were fans begging for Kovalev-Yarde, talking about it constantly, before it came about? No. So don't let the media gaslight you into treating this one any differently. It's the same thing.
