Comments Thread For: Golovkin Takes High Road; Thanks Abel Sanchez For Teaching Him

LAS VEGAS Gennadiy Golovkin declined to respond Saturday to the harsh words his former trainer delivered last week. Abel Sanchez painted Golovkin as a greedy, ungrateful fighter once the former middleweight champion announced April 22 that he was parting ways with his longtime trainer. Golovkin announced during a press conference Saturday morning at MGM Grand that Johnathon Banks has replaced Sanchez.

"Gennadiy" XDD Good. Anyways honestly Im a bit disappointed by the signing. We'll see.. :/ Gennadiy needs someone who fires him up, and elevates his monster capacity. This thug is lifeless, boring and a robot.

At first I didn't know what to think of GGG and Sanchez parting ways. But it looks like GGG did it because he felt like he had maxed out with Sanchez. He said it himself, he wants to learn again. There's only so much Sanchez can teach Golovkin. I'm not mad at GGG because he wants to learn more and feels like he can continue to grow.

This is how I feel. Trip G was starting to look stale and he had lost his smile. If a new trainer can get a little more out of him and help him max out whatever is left in the tank, that is great. But Golovkin is a tireless trainer, so I truly think getting him back to enjoying his sport- you know, hurting people- is maybe more important. He handled that loss to Alvarez very poorly, a sign he was not enjoying himself. He has a couple good years left. No promises this works, but staying with Sanchez would surely result in more of the same.

                    not sure about that

that is what Golovkin says, now

all other reports, including from Abel himself..... detail money as the cause

Abel did not accept having his split cut from 10% down to 2%

hence..... " greedy, ungrateful, Golovkin "

Golovkin has been lying to the fans for years, not sure why I should believe him now

it sounds like Golovkin is trying to make out that it was a training issue..... but if that is true, then he would have simply left Sanchez in search of a better fit, and it would have happened long before now.....

Golovkin would not have cut Abel's pay from 10% to 2%, if what he needed was a new trainer..... he would have simply gotten himself a new trainer

and this happened immediately after Golovkin just signing a huge deal with DAZN..... wow, what a coincidence

I believe the " greedy ungrateful Golovkin " story

like I said when this story first broke..... Golovkin should have simply paid Abel more, because Abel deserved more..... and Abel admitted that he would have accepted 4%, Gennady just needed to be reasonable and offer him a little more

                    it sounds ridiculous

Golovkin is either extremely greedy with no loyalty, or there is some lingering resentment over Abel's honesty with the media immediately following the loss to Canelo
