Arum would neither confirm nor deny info from an industry source I have that the traditional PPV buys for @terencecrawford @amirkingkhan was 150k, but he responded “we’re in a new era” and that the bout’s extra “digital buys were so explosive no one has seen anything like it.”

So looks like the initial rumors were right in line. Now, this one certainly had digital buys, but what percentage will buy it digitally opposed to linear?

Likely less than would buy it in the conventional way obviously, but you need less buys if you keep more of the pie digitally too so it equals out quicker.

Anyone know how the digital pie is cut up?

Seems like the distributor is getting a 45%ish cut the old school way. I seem to recall the network takes 10%ish or so although I maybe mis-recalling that. Then the other 45%ish goes to the promoter/fighter from my understanding.

Is there someone taking a piece besides ESPN, TR & the fighters with these ESPN+ PPV's that I'm not realizing?

And the digital buys line is BS. I'd believe it if the fight did 300k and up. But traditional buys only being 150k shows hardcore boxing fans bought this fight. And hardcore boxing fans skew older therefore more traditional ways of buying the fight will be used.

The fight was overpriced and a lot of fans had the gut feeling Khan was going to get mauled. It wasn't a bad card but the main event was trash.

Pugmier is a real boxing journalist so I would believe his numbers over Rick Glaser's any day.

Sounds like a bad flop of a PPV. Unless Arum is telling the truth about digital buys being "explosive."

For sure, but they definitely want to transition more in digital buys. I mean I got lied to and was forced to purchase Spence/Garcia on the Fox Sports app lol.

But hey, I didn't see no one bringing up digital buys for the Spence/Garcia PPV.
