Comments Thread For: Maidana-Santana Was Eyed For 7/20, Before Maidana KO'd Return

Sources in Argentina indicate to BoxingScene.com that former two division champion Marcos Maidana was being positioned to face rugged welterweight contender Francisco Santana. The fight would have been the first bout in the planned comeback of Maidana, who has been inactive since September of 2014, when the Argentinean boxer lost a twelve round unanimous decision in his rematch with Floyd Mayweather at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

It was best he stayed retired anyways!

He was never a fighter that loved boxing and only did it for an end to a means!

Hopefully he has invested his money wisely as American dollars go a long to Argentina currency!

Him trying to go back to 147 within this year was already a red flag!

"Sources reveal that Maidana had received several monetary advances to assist him with any comeback expenses, include an advance on the day he returned to Argentina. However, Maidana was pushing for a larger advance - but there was always a fear that Maidana would lose his desire to return and fly right back to Argentina - which he did."

This sounds a lil sketchy. Marcos go a lil too crazy with his Floyd money & thats why he was coming back in the first place or something?

I don't think Maidana made as much as people think he did. Doesn't the government take out a huge portion of foreign athlete paychecks for taxes? Add on top of that the percentages that the promoters, managers, and coaches take and that its been almost 5 years since Maidana had any real paychecks and 5 years of bills and starting his own promotional company - I don't think its far-fetched that Maidana wanted a few more paychecks just to feel safe.

Right that's what it sounds like to me too. He was going to get paid and then walk out of the ring like that HW guy did last year lol
