Why was “marinating” a good thing prior to 2015, but not now?

I saw a lot of fans out there praising the virtues of marinating fights just a few years back. Saw fighters who gave themselves a pat on the back for being smart to marinate big fights. Now it seems those same fans want fights made immediately. No build up, no marinating, no waiting a year or two. They were ok with years on end of marinating, but now they are are impatient?

Because marinating meant we saw two inferior fighters fighting in 2015 instead of two prime ATG's?

Currently everyone is in a hurry to see Crawford vs Spence and opposing fans accusing the other of ducking. In one or two years both these guys will still be in their prime. I think one more year of build up wil make this a bigger fight.

Same with AJ and Wilder, Thurman and Spence, Loma and López, etc.

Oddly enough, the same fans demanding Loma fight Teo want to say that Tank is too young, too inexperienced for Loma. Casuals.

Most of the marinating was done by ol’ Bob.

          Lopez vs. Gamboa

          Donaire vs. Mares

          Pacquiao vs. Marquez III

          Pacquiao vs. Mayweather

And ol’ Bob is still the one doing the marinating.

Yeah well the fights right now have already been marinating for more than 2 years so don’t compare to Golden Boy saying it needed to marinate because that fight took 2 very fast years to make with awesome fights in between. The other fights are gonna take another 2 to 3 years do to f@gget promoters being too p@ssy

When did milking get replaced with marinating? Lets just call it what it is. The promoters are making as much money as they can before risking their fighter taking an L. That's milking.

I mean before 2015 I don't think anyone was cool with fights marinating aside from maybe Canelo v Chavez jr but most people didn't really care about it since neither was proven at the time and then chavez out grew the division

Floyd openly admits he marinated the PAC fight for five years. Insisted he deserved credit for being smart and making it bigger.

Marquez didn’t deserve a third fight. He technically lost the first one due to a scoring screw up by Bert Clements who failed to score a 10-7 round for Manny.

Neither Spence or Crawford were household names before their last fights. Get each of them in the ring with one more marquee name and make the fight in 2020, what’s wrong with that?
