The reports i read was that Golovkin offered 5% take it or leave.

Keep in mind, Golovkin is making $16M/fight, 5% of that is 800K before tax, and it's still a lot after tax.

at 10%, Abel would've been making over $1M per fight.

I don't blame Golovkin for being greedy. He was probably getting fleeced his whole career. That's why he cleaned house and got rid of Abel and the Hermann Brothers. He probably only brought Tom back at a reduced percentage as well.
Yep well said...with how many hangers-on and 'interpreters' as he has had around him he has probably lost a lot of money already. Glad he is being smart about it now with this big deal.

its unfortunate they are parting on bad terms, but this is quite common when fighters get to a certain revenue point. Pretty much everyone switches their trainers from percentage to flat-fee once they start getting north of $5 or $10 million per fight. Floyd did it, Pac, Oscar, Cotto, even Hops. But of course when GGG does it, its an outrage!!!!! LOL

Perhaps once Wilder does it then this forum will suddenly decide how wise and appropriate it is lol

This is your typical constructive dismissal. GGG is chasing a third Canelo's fight and doesn't want a Mexican trainer (Abel) in his Camp. The conflict of interest is palpable. We can presumed Able to be a consummate professional, but defeating Canelo would be preventing greatness in his fellow country man. I don't think Triple G is confident Abel has his best interest at heart going into these fights with Canelo.

Lol! Based on what? 24 rounds without hurting GGG once?

Abel should have some class. Look at freddie, he says he'll even train pacquiao for free at this point, they have that kind of relationship(although im sure if it happened it would hurt the relationship).

Golovkin is either being strategical with his finances or he was looking for a new trainer to begin with. Abel was given a choice, you can stay on my team and I will pay you x amoint on top of all the other income you get from your other fighters, or I will find a new trainer.

You think Michael Jordan or renaldo don’t need coaches?
