I think people are reading too much into this fight. It serves Gennady to see how does he feel and maybe try some new things in the training camp. Who cares if the fight agsainst unknown fighter is at 160, 164 or 172?? Is it really that important - would you give Gennady more or less credit for beating Rolls at any weight? I wouldn’t.

It is what it is. An experiment for Gennady to see if he still has it... I am interested to see how is his speed, output and stamina.

fielding was a tune up 3 months after the canelo-ggg fight, this rolls tune up should have happened months ago, not acceptable now, anyways there still a significant gap between fielding and rolls one was ranked top 10 at 168, the other one barely top 100 at 160... neither fight is something to brag about... jacobs would have been much more acceptable for ggg, but the rematch is not even in the conversation for ggg and we all know is risk-reward related, same goes for andrade, charlo, etc...

Fans need to learn to be consistent with their stances. This fight is a bulls-** cherry pick and the catch weight is ridiculous. Just like when canelo fought Chavez Jr at 163.5 it was a b**** move. Nobody wants to see cherry picks and enough of the catch weight bs. Either move up a division or don't.

Stop trying to equate the two. An equivalent here would be Golovkin asking Callum or Benavidez to put their belts on the line at 164.
lets not forget ggg and his fans criticized canelo when he was fighting 154 punders one pound above the limit with no titles on the line, nothing wrong as you said, but the problem is the hipocresy...
wasnt ggg asking ward to fight at 164 ?
i have yet to see ggg challenge him self vs someone from a higher class, even at cw, just not in his DNA lol... callum or benavidez are just fantasy fights for ggg, lets be realistic...

Who cares about a catchweight, as long as its not for a belt at an established weight class they could pick whatever number they want to fight at.

I am not sure how to respond to this. If I was Rolls, I would slap him at the weigh in for making such a disrespectful statement.

Hell, Canelo made Chavez Jr boil down to 164 for their fight.
Ward was coming off of a 19-month layoff and was undecided as to whether he would be fighting at 168 or 175. Also, Alvarez came up 10 lbs while Chavez Jr. came down just 3 to make a mega bucks fight. This is just a bs stay busy fight/sparring session while GGG begs Alvarez for a third fight.
