I'm ok with a champion adding a rematch clause to a contract.

But this business of forcing boxers to sign "options" in order to get certain fights seens corrupt as hell.

Like it's just a way to tie fighters down to promoters or broadcasters so that they can keep making money. Regardless of what moves the winning boxer might want to make for himself and his future.

I feel the sport needs an international body that ALLOWS promoters to purchase the right to make money from fights. i.e. it would be illegal to bind individual boxers to contracts.

Completely agree, this needs eradicating. It’s completely unfair on the fighters and doesn’t give them the security they deserve.

It also works in favor of fighters if they're guaranteed dates on big platforms I'm sure. They get the payday of the first fight and the exposure in the other fights win or lose. I'm sure alot of guys jump at those chances when they're lesser known in the game. Guaranteed money speaks more than uncertainty in alot of cases

Who has been forcing boxers to sign "options"?

Why not? People love watching good fights. The demand is always going to be there.

Promoters/broadcasters would just be forced to compete for talent on a fight-by-fight basis.

Well, for example, the talk is that if Luis Ortiz wanted the Joshua fight he would have had to give Hearn options on his future fights.

Is this "talk" coming from people connected to Ortiz .. or other people who don't have an actual clue what they're talking about?
